Following a first-round loss in the NCAA Tournament, Hubert Davis' odds of remaining North Carolina's head coach may be slim. UNC has a rich tradition as one of the nation's elite college basketball programs, and consistent success is the standard.
What's Happening?
Talks of replacing Hubert Davis as UNC's head coach have intensified.
The University of North Carolina is currently evaluating the program and should decide Davis' future relatively soon. It's not clear whether they plan on firing him outright, but Pete Thamel had this to say:
“Do not expect Davis to be fired outright. Any kind of departure would be synchronized, likely between he and the school. Hubert Davis is a legend at North Carolina and will be treated with that type of respect.”
North Carolina's Next Head Coach Odds
Traditionally, UNC has mostly hired from within, but here's a list of potential candidates from outside of that pool:
- Jay Wright – Retired Villanova Head Coach
- Nate Oates – Head Coach at Alabama
- Mark Byington – Head Coach at Vanderbilt
- Todd Golden – Head Coach at Florida
