Tulsa vs USF College Basketball Betting Preview

I project the Bulls as just 1.6-point home favorites in this matchup, so I show a slight bit of value on the Golden Hurricane.

College Basketball Projections, Picks: Tanner McGrath's Power Ratings & Score Model Image

Tulsa is one of my favorite teams in the nation. Eric Konkol’s dribble hand-off, drive-and-kick motion offense is easily the best in the conference. While the Golden Hurricane defense is slightly weaker, they never foul, and they’re decent on the defensive glass — two very important things when facing off against USF.

The Bulls are just one game behind Tulsa in the conference standings, and they actually beat the Hurricane on the road earlier this season, 93-78.

However, USF shot the lights out in that game, making 16 of an absurd 42 3-point attempts. USF guard Wes Enis went 10-for-19 from deep by himself — Tulsa made just seven triples as a team.

Although I adore Bryan Hodgson’s rim-and-3-centric offense, I don’t expect the Bulls to shoot that well in the rematch. And if they don’t, this game should finish within one possession — for what it’s worth, ShotQuality graded that game as just a two-point USF victory based on the “quality” of shots from both teams.

These are two teams I have power-rated very similarly with two very similar offenses.

But I’m still slightly higher on Tulsa (about 1.5 points per 100 possessions). I also expect the Hurricane to perform admirably with revenge on their mind.

Ultimately, I think it’s worth grabbing over a possession in what should be a tightly contested ballgame across all 40 minutes.

My Pick: Tulsa +3.5 or Better
