A Brief History of the World Series of Poker

The World Series of Poker has a storied history that dates back to 1970.

Originating as a small gathering of poker players at Binion's Horseshoe in Las Vegas, the WSOP has grown into the world's most prestigious poker tournament series. The inaugural event crowned its champion, Johnny Moss, via a vote among peers, an unconventional method by today’s standards.

Over the decades, the WSOP has expanded in size and scope, drawing thousands of players from around the world and offering millions in prize money.
