The 26th annual TribalNet Conference & Tradeshow begins today at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada.
This major event brings together over 700 tribal technology professionals and leaders in gaming, hospitality, and health sectors.
The conference kicks off with a strong focus on new technologies that are transforming the gaming and hospitality industries. Experts will present the latest trends and more efficient ways to enhance customer experiences.
As the week progresses, not only will attendees have the chance to get a look at the expansion project that is underway at the Grand Sierra Resort, but the conversation will pivot towards cybersecurity—a timely topic following recent cyberattacks in Nevada.
Cybersecurity Concerns in Nevada and Minnesota
Just last month, Nevada's state computer systems were hit by a major ransomware attack that disrupted government offices and services. This attack affected many systems, including those linked to the DMV and contractor payments. The state is working with federal agencies like the FBI to fix the issue and prevent future attacks.

Earlier in the year, a ransomware gang linked to Russia disrupted operations at the Jackpot Junction Casino Hotel in the Lower Sioux Indian Community. This attack caused widespread operational issues, shutting down gaming machines and affecting other critical services. Despite some operations continuing, the incident underscored the critical need for heightened cybersecurity measures.
There was another incident at a casino in New York that also caused some concern.
Conference to Focus on Casino Cybersecurity Tactics
This year's TribalNet is crucial as it provides participants with insights into the latest strategies for secure and effective technology use in tribal enterprises.
The conference is focused on practical solutions to protect vital infrastructure and revenue streams against increasing cyber threats. Core discussions will cover a range of topics, including:
- Protecting against ransomware
- Responding to cyberattack incidents
- Plans and tools for investigating attacks
- Identifying and addressing vulnerabilities through regular testing
Data security sessions will emphasize the importance of protecting sensitive data with encrypted backups.
Learning How To Use Casino Cybersecurity Tools
Participants will learn how to use security tools and centers to watch out for and deal with security threats. They'll also take part in interactive sessions about protecting casino management systems from complex attacks. The talks will stress the need for tribal cybersecurity teams to work together with federal partners to strengthen defenses.
The conference will have hands-on workshops, where attendees can work on real cybersecurity problems.
There will be sessions especially for tribal leaders on planning and investing in better security measures, highlighting the importance of staying resilient and getting a good return on their investments.
TribalNet 2025 will attempt to provide tribal leaders and tech experts with the knowledge and tools they need to tackle today's cybersecurity challenges and protect their businesses from new threats.
