For my top Steelers vs Chargers NFL PrizePicks and Underdog plays, I’m highlighting Aaron Rodgers, Pat Freiermuth, and Quentin Johnston.
Aaron Rodgers has been far better than many expected in his age-41 season, ranking ninth in completion percentage and 18th in yards per pass coming into this matchup. While the majority of his passes are quick and short, we've seen him turn back the clock in trailing game scripts.
This is a matchup where we won't see much of that, as the Steelers have an opportunity to keep this game close by running the football and minimizing their attempts against a stout Chargers secondary.
Los Angeles ranks fourth in opponent completion percentage and yards per pass allowed while holding the eighth-best sack rate. Not to mention leading the NFL in passing touchdowns allowed per game.
Fade Rodgers as the Steelers lean on the run game in the red zone tonight.
We now know that the Steelers' passing attack is due for a tough night against the Chargers' secondary.
However, the matchup has deflated the Steelers' receiving props and has created value on tight end Pat Freiermuth, who's emerged as a consistent option lately.
Freiermuth has seen 14 targets over the last three weeks and has hauled in 11 of them. He's also averaged 10.3 yards per reception on the season. He's become a safety valve for Rodgers, and he may look to Freiermuth quite a bit, considering the Chargers' pass rush.
If they connect at least three times, we should cash this.
Finally, we are going to flip sides and capitalize on one of the best matchups of the entire slate.
The Steelers' secondary has been vulnerable, to say the least, as they rank last in receiving yards allowed per game and last in receiving yards allowed per game to opposing wide receivers.
This is the matchup where we should see an explosive wideout like Quentin Johnston thrive. While Johnston is not a high-volume receiver, he has become a big-play weapon, averaging 15 yards per reception.
He has had a reception of at least 20 yards in six of eight games this season, which means he could get half way to this number on just one catch.
Back Johnston with confidence as he's being vastly undervalued.
