49ers vs Raiders NFL Preseason Preview
The 49ers are coming off a 41-17 win over the Chargers in Week 2 of the preseason.
Brock Purdy saw some limited action in that game, completing 4-of-6 passes for 27 yards. The bulk of the reps under center went to Mac Jones and Adrian Martinez. Running back Sincere McCormick was highly effective, rushing six times for 53 yards and one touchdown.
Rookie De'Zhaun Stribling continued his standout offseason with four catches for 46 yards. He's been the talk of Niners camp, showing immediate rapport with Purdy while providing optimism that he can make an immediate impact in his debut season.
The Raiders beat the Texans 22-20 in Week 2 of the preseason.
Rookie running back Mike Washington Jr. once again looked terrific, rushing nine times for 56 yards. Third-string quarterback Aidan O'Connell stole the show, completing 15-of-24 passes for 166 yards.
Meanwhile, rookie signal-caller Fernando Mendoza had a bit of a tough time, completing 8-of-15 passes for 86 yards and an interception.
It will be interesting to see whether head coach Klint Kubiak gives some reps to Mendoza in this game. On top of that, with Ashton Jeanty dealing with an ankle injury, they may not want to risk Washington in this matchup.
49ers vs Raiders Prediction, Betting Analysis
The Raiders are favored in this game because Kyle Shanahan has already publicly stated that "I don't think you'll see many starters" and that "it'll be closer to how Week 1 was."
Looking back at Week 1 of the preseason, both Purdy and Jones didn't play — it was Martinez and Kurtis Rourke under center. In other words, it's likely that the Niners will go with their Nos. 3 and 4 quarterbacks for this matchup.
With O'Connell looking good as the Raiders' third-string quarterback, along with likely limited snaps from Mendoza, the Raiders have the advantage under center.
With that in mind, we'll ride with the Raiders -3.5 here.
Pick: Raiders -3.5 (-105)
