Welcome back, folks. It’s been nine months since we watched Scottie Scheffler hoist the Claret Jug at Royal Portrush, cementing his dominance on the world stage. But the wait is over. We’ve arrived at the doorstep of 2026’s first major. We are back at Augusta National Golf Club for the 2026 Masters Tournament.

Last April at Augusta, the wait finally ended. Rory McIlroy silenced the doubters, outlasting Justin Rose in a dramatic one-hole playoff to secure his elusive Green Jacket. With one final putt, the monkey was off his back, and the career grand slam was complete.

Returning to Augusta, we’re faced with storylines that are impossible to ignore. First, the world No. 1. In Scheffler’s last three starts, he’s lost strokes on approach in two of them. To put that in perspective, the last time Scheffler lost strokes on approach was the 2024 BMW Championship — 589 days ago.

Then, there’s the Rory factor. Can McIlroy go back-to-back? He’d be joining the most exclusive club in golf alongside Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods.

Finally, the LIV presence. Jon Rahm (2023 champ) and Bryson DeChambeau have mastered this layout, with DeChambeau posting T5 and T6 finishes in his last two trips. Expect both of them to be in the hunt come Sunday.

I can already feel those Wednesday night butterflies. It’s easily one of the best four-day stretches of the year. So, without further ado, let’s get into the track and break down the key statistics that actually matter at Augusta National.

Key Stats For 2026 Masters

It’s quite simple: If you are not in good form coming into the Masters, you are likely not winning. I will be looking at six key stats that should give us a strong core in seeing which players are likely to contend this week.

All stats are from betspertsgolf.com

Approach Play

Approach play at Augusta National isn't just important — it’s paramount. With lightning-fast, undulating bentgrass greens and shaved run-off areas, the margin for error is razor-thin. If you miss your spot by a yard, the course will find you. These aren't just greens; they are a collection of tiny, specific targets that you have to hit just to stay on the surface. McIlroy led the field in approach last year.

Top 5 Players SG: Approach Last 2 Months / Min 16 Rounds:

  1. Colin Morikawa +1.12
  2. Adam Scott +1.11
  3. Akshay Bhatia +1.00
  4. Daniel Berger +0.95
  5. Brooks Koepka +0.90

Course History at Augusta National Golf Club

Course history is the ultimate filter at Augusta. The debutant narrative is real — Fuzzy Zoeller remains the only first-timer to win here in nearly 50 years.

If you're looking for a winner this week, look for the “knocking on the door” profile. Scheffler didn't just show up and win; he posted T19 and T18 finishes to find his bearings. Rahm was even more consistent, with a 66% Top-10 rate before he finally put it all together.

Top 10 Players SG: Total at Augusta National All Time / Min 8 Rounds:

  1. Ludvig Aberg +2.88
  2. Scottie Scheffler +2.69
  3. Rory McIlroy +2.03
  4. Jordan Spieth +1.92
  5. Jon Rahm +1.88
  6. Justin Rose +1.86
  7. Collin Morikawa +1.69
  8. Hideki Matsuyama +1.67
  9. Dustin Johnson +1.50
  10. Patrick Reed +1.48

Around The Green

Around the green at Augusta, the margin for error effectively disappears. This isn't a course defended by thick rough; it’s defended by short-grass — tight, shaved banks that feed directly into punishing run-off areas. With greens this firm, holding the surface is a constant battle, making going up-and-down the most valuable skill in the field. To wear the green Jacket, you have to be a wizard with the wedges, finding a way to save par from spots that look impossible.

Top 5 Players SG: Around the Green Last 12 Months / Min 8 Rounds on Fast Greens:

  1. Scottie Scheffler +0.80
  2. Bryson DeChambeau +0.78
  3. Jason Day +0.70
  4. Tyrell Hatton +0.60
  5. Nick Taylor +0.58

Putting

The green complexes at Augusta National are widely considered the fastest, most treacherous surfaces in the country. Being dialed with the flat stick isn't just a bonus this week, it’s a survival requirement. To contend, you have to be elite on lightning-fast bentgrass where a one-inch miscalculation can result in a twenty-foot comeback putt.

Top 5 Players SG: Putting on Fast Bentgrass Greens Last 2 Years / Min 16 Rounds

  1. Jason Day +0.75
  2. Xander Schauffele +0.68
  3. Harris English +0.60
  4. Gary Woodland +0.59
  5. Justin Rose +0.53

Off The Tee – Total Driving

At just under 7,600 yards, Augusta National is a brute that demands more than just distance. To consistently hit greens in regulation here, you need the rare combination of length and accuracy. That’s why I’m prioritizing Total Driving this week.  Players will have to put themselves in the proper windows to attack these pins.

Top 5 Players Rank: Total Driving Last 3 Months / Min 16 Round

  1. Cameron Young
  2. Min Woo Lee
  3. Sam Stevens
  4. Michael Brennan
  5. Si Woo Kim

Par 5 Scoring

This is likely the most important stat I will look at this week.  Last year, McIlroy was 11-under total and 7-under on the Par 5s (even with two double bogeys)!  In 2024, Scheffler won at 11-under; he was 9-under on the 5s. In 2023, Rahm won at 12-under; he was 10-under on the 5s. You see the pattern?

Top 10 Players: Par 5 Scoring Average – Last 24 Rounds

  1. Jake Knapp +4.28
  2. Min Woo Lee +4.33
  3. Collin Morikawa +4.34
  4. Scottie Scheffler +4.36
  5. Tommy Fleetwood +4.38
  6. Ludvig Aberg +4.39
  7. Matt Fitzpatrick +4.40
  8. Mav McNealy +4.40
  9. Chris Gotterup +4.41
  10. Rory McIlroy +4.41

2026 Masters Outright Winner Best Bet

Bryson DeChambeau +1075

To win at Augusta National, you must be an elite driver of the golf ball.  Bryson DeChambeau is the best driver of the golf ball in this field and it’s not particularly close.  Nobody has the distance paired with control like DeChambeau.

The Masters has turned into a true driving test.  Just look at the past winners: McIlroy, Scheffler, Rahm, Scheffler.  They all combined for 18+ stoked gained: off the tee in their wins.  Just under five strokes on average.  Those are big time numbers for off the tee metrics.  Without elite driving, you are going to fall behind very quickly at Augusta.

DeChambeau’s history at Augusta is a fascinating study. After early struggles, he has clearly decoded the layout, posting a T6 and T5 in his last two appearances. In both instances, he was arguably one bad round away from a win.

As mentioned, history shows that Masters winners are usually knocking on the door here in prior starts before breaking through. Scheffler posted a T19 and T18 before his wins. Rahm was a consistent top-10 finisher before his victory.

While LIV data is often debated, DeChambeau’s recent form is undeniable, coming off back-to-back wins in Singapore and South Africa. He is one of the best around the green players in the field, ranking second in our model over the past year and gaining in his last three starts on LIV.

DeChambeau has explicitly stated his preference for lightning-fast greens, a claim backed up by his 2024 U.S. Open win at Pinehurst.

It’s time for him to get his green jacket.  I feel it.
