Astros vs Red Sox MLB Betting Preview

Editor’s note: This article was transcribed from the latest episode of the Payoff Pitch Podcast.

By Derek Carty

For a lot of the same reasons I give out these types of plays, Shay Whitcomb has a high pinch-hit risk. THE BAT X projects it at about 51% today once the bullpen comes in.

He's likely facing a pitcher in Jake Bennett who hasn't been given a very long leash in the minors — more of a 75- to 80-pitch kind of guy. So if that's what we get from him today, there's a decent chance we only get two at-bats out of Whitcomb — more likely three, but there is a chance of only two, which would be pretty awesome.

When we have that high of a pinch-hit risk, especially against a short-leash pitcher, it's going to show value.
