For my Wednesday MLB player props, I'll be targeting a pair of pitchers tonight in Nolan McLean and Casey Mize. However, we will begin in Milwaukee, where Brice Turang will look to stay hot against the Diamondbacks.
Let's dive into my MLB player prop picks for the MLB games on Wednesday, August 27.
MLB Player Props for August 27, 2025
- Brice Turang Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + Runs Batted In (-130, DraftKings)
- Nolan McLean Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-150, Fanatics)
- Casey Mize Under 16.5 Outs Recorded (-135, DraftKings)
Diamonbacks vs Brewers Player Props: Great Month for Turang
The month of August is winding down, but one player who probably does not want it to end is Brice Turang.
This month, Turang is slashing .349/.404/.733 with six doubles, nine home runs, and 23 runs batted in. He has already set career-highs with 15 home runs and 67 RBI on the year, his latest long ball coming last night in the Brewers' walk-off victory.
He is 0-for-2 with two strikeouts against Ryne Nelson, the Arizona starter tonight.
Nelson has been steady for the Diamondbacks after they lost Corbin Burnes for the season. However, the Diamondbacks pitcher has given up four runs in four of his last five starts. He also has a 5.01 ERA on the road this season.
Turang is hitting .284 against right-handed pitchers and .312 when playing in night games. He enters tonight's game riding a nine-game hitting streak.
He has scored in seven of those games and driven in a run in six of them. As a result, he has cleared this line in seven of his last nine games and will likely be batting leadoff, so I like his chances of getting there again.
Phillies vs Mets Player Props: Back the Electric McLean
Just when the Phillies looked to be pulling away in the NL East, the Mets have taken the first two games in the series to get back within five. Manager Carlos Mendoza will hand the ball to the rookie Nolan McLean in search of the sweep.
McLean has been electric through his first two starts with 15 strikeouts in 12 and 1/3 innings. He has allowed just six hits and two earned runs in the process. That tracks with his time in the minors, during which he had 243 strikeouts in 223 and 1/3 innings over the last two years.
Tonight, he gets a tougher matchup against the Phillies, who rank 20th in strikeout rate this season. However, last night, Sean Manaea punched out eight batters in four and 2/3 innings. On Monday, Kodai Senga had four strikeouts in four innings before departing due to a high pitch count.
Both starters were around 90 pitches by the fifth inning, so managing the pitch count will be key for McLean tonight.
However, because Manaea and Senga failed to get out of the fifth inning, the Mets could use a five to six-inning start from McLean tonight. Mendoza used five relievers last night, including Ryan Helsey and Edwin Diaz, for over 20 pitches.
Given the Phillies have not seen McLean before, he will have the edge his first time through the order. If he is able to rack up a few Ks early, that will set him up to get five for the game.
Tigers vs Athletics Player Props: Fade Mize Tonight
In the first two games of this series, the Athletics have scored 15 runs while pulling off two comeback victories. Reigning Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal and Charlie Morton each allowed five runs or more, though most of Skubal's runs were unearned.
The Tigers will send another All-Star starter to the mound tonight in Mize, though he has been struggling of late.
Over his last seven starts, Mize has a 6.54 ERA while allowing five home runs in 31 and 2/3 innings. In that span, he has allowed three earned runs five times while working under five and 2/3 innings four times.
Now, he will have to navigate a hot A's lineup as they have scored five runs or more in seven of his last 10 games. Additionally, I suspect Sutter Heath Park is a park where Mize may struggle.
Mize has surrendered an 8.9% barrel rate and 42.5% hard hit percentage. The Athletics have five regulars with a hard hit percentage above 45%, led by Nick Kurtz and Tyler Soderstrom, who are both above 50%.
If Mize is giving up a lot of hard contact tonight, he may give up a few homers and/or have long, stressful innings. As a result, he likely does not get out of the fifth inning tonight.
