After the conclusion of the 2025-26 NBA season, The Action Network has analyzed over 1.6 million comments from the subreddits of all 30 NBA fandoms to find out which NBA fandoms are the most polite and, on the contrary, which fandoms are the most foul-mouthed. Additionally, the analysis also uncovered which NBA fandoms are the most positive and which fans are the most negative as well as the most popular swear words per fandom.

- The Philadelphia 76ers were found to be the most foul-mouthed NBA fandom, with 10.50% of their comments containing swear words, ahead of the Houston Rockets (8.89% of comments including swear words) and the Atlanta Hawks (8.80% of comments including swear words).
- The Philadelphia 76ers also came out as the most negative NBA fandom, with 31.67% of their comments carrying a negative tone, ahead of the Houston Rockets (31.35% of comments carrying a negative tone) and the Orlando Magic (31.11% of comments carrying a negative tone).

The Most Foul-Mouthed NBA Fandoms
At first, a sample of comments from the subreddits of the NBA fandoms was collected, tracking the period between June 2025 and June 2026, and it was subsequently analyzed how many of their comments included swear words.
According to an analysis of over 1.6 million comments across all NBA fandoms, the Philadelphia 76ers were found to be the most foul-mouthed fandom, since 10.50% of the comments on their subreddit included swear words.
The Houston Rockets turned out to be the second most foul-mouthed NBA fandom, with 8.89% of their comments including swear words, followed by the Atlanta Hawks in third place at 8.80%. Rounding out the top five, the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics posted almost identical rates of 8.67% each.
The Most Negative NBA Fandoms
Every comment collected was also run through a sentiment analysis tool, which classified it as positive, negative, or neutral, allowing each fandom to be ranked by the share of its comments that fell into each category.
The Philadelphia 76ers were found to be the most negative NBA fandom, with 31.67% of their comments carrying a negative tone. The Houston Rockets ranked second, with 31.35% of their comments classified as negative, followed by the Orlando Magic in third place at 31.11%. The Cleveland Cavaliers and the New Orleans Pelicans rounded out the top five most negative fandoms, at 30.65% and 30.61%, respectively.
The Most Positive NBA Fandoms
On the positive side of the same sentiment analysis, the Utah Jazz were found to be the most positive NBA fandom, with 52.92% of their comments carrying a positive tone. The Brooklyn Nets followed in second place at 51.87%, with the Washington Wizards close behind in third at 50.80%. The Indiana Pacers and the Los Angeles Lakers completed the top five most positive fandoms, with 50.07% and 48.72% of their comments carrying a positive tone, respectively.
The Most Polite NBA Fandoms
On the other end of the profanity scale, the Utah Jazz were found to be the most polite NBA fandom, with only 5.19% of their comments including swear words. The Washington Wizards followed as the second most polite fandom at 5.35%, with the Brooklyn Nets close behind in third place at 5.53%. The Charlotte Hornets and the Chicago Bulls completed the top five most polite fandoms, with 6.16% and 6.46% of their comments containing swear words, respectively.

Methodology
- Collection Period: June 2025 – June 2026; final analysis carried out in July 2026.
- In total, 1,657,917 comments from 30 subreddits of the 2025-26 NBA fandoms were analyzed, looking for comments that contained swear words.
- Each fandom was assigned a percentage value based on the % of the comments on their subreddit that contained swear words.
- In total, 127,060 swear words were found.
- Additionally, the emotional tone of each comment was assessed and categorized as either negative, positive or neutral.
- Minimum number of comments collected per fandom: 29,000.
