Mississippi State vs New Mexico College Basketball Betting Preview
Our very own Tanner McGrath has been working on daily projections for college basketball. While the model is a work in progress, it says that New Mexico should be around +5, not the +7.5 that is currently being offered at DraftKings or the +7 that is currently being offered at bet365.
In fact, that matches up with our Action Network PRO projections that have New Mexico also in the +5 range. That's currently labeled as a C+ grade, but it still provides us with some value for this selection.
On the court, Mississippi State was pummeled by Kansas State on Thursday in the Hall of Fame Classic. The Bulldogs allowed 98 points to the Wildcats, including 37 to star PJ Haggerty.
While Josh Hubbard scored 23 points and Jayden Epps provided a nice spark off the bench (18 points in 20 minutes), there wasn't enough balance in the Bulldogs' attack. Hubbard also shot a lousy 1-for-6 from 3, and the Bulldogs, as a team, shot just 28% from downtown.
On the flip side, New Mexico also lost its Hall of Fame Classic opener by 12 to Nebraska. The Lobos may not have a player on paper who's as good as Hubbard — or Haggerty for that matter — but the expectation is for them to still keep this game within striking distance.
New head coach Eric Olen is eventually going to get the ship righted.
