Pitt vs West Virginia College Basketball Betting Preview

Pitt Basketball

Jeff Capel's team is off to a hot start this season with a perfect 3-0 record.

Pitt opened the season with a win over Youngstown State and followed that up with a comfortable victory over Longwood.

The Panthers most recently defeated Eastern Michigan, 78-66, on Monday.

Pittsburgh hasn't reached the NCAA Tournament since 2023. The Panthers have gone dancing just once since 2016.

Brandin Cummings leads the team with 18.5 points per game. Cummings didn't play against Eastern Michigan on Monday, though.

Allen, Texas, native Cameron Corhen is off to a hot start this year with 15 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.

West Virginia Basketball

West Virginia is off to an encouraging 3-0 start this season.

The Mountaineers have won two of their three games by double digits, including a 69-47 win over Lehigh on Sunday.

Darian DeVries surprisingly left the program to take the Indiana head coaching job, and Ross Hodge was tasked with getting this Mountaineers program back on track.

West Virginia was a dominant program from 2005 to 2018, as it only missed March Madness three times in that span. The Mountaineers have since struggled with just two NCAA Tournament appearances since 2019.

Senior Brenen Lorient leads West Virginia with 16.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.

Chattanooga transfer Honor Huff is off to a solid start with 15.7 points per game.

Pitt vs. West Virginia Betting Analysis

West Virginia is off to a strong start on the defensive end this season, ranking 31st in points allowed per game.

While the sample size is small and the opponents it's played are below average, I've been impressed with what I've seen from this West Virginia defense.

West Virginia wants its identity to be on the defensive end of the floor, as its offense has struggled shooting early in the season.

Pitt has been subpar on offense early in the season, and I don't expect it to score consistently against this West Virginia defense.

The pace of this game will bode well for the under.

My Pick: Under 134 (Play to 133.5)
