Bucky Ball has arrived at Texas A&M, with new head coach Bucky McMillan bringing his up-tempo attack from Samford. The Aggies push the pace, take a ton of 3s, and prioritize rim looks.
For a while, it worked. But the Aggies slumped through the season’s second half, winning four of their final 11 games.
But late in the season, the Aggies have hit a drought, winning just four of their final 11 games.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, Saint Mary’s head coach Randy Bennett has never had his style dubbed with a cute moniker, but there are certainly tenets essential to Bennett Ball.
The Gaels haven’t ranked higher than 297th nationally in tempo (this year) since 2015. Bennett-led squads work at a plodding pace, led by playmaking guards and shooters.
It’s led to a crisp regular season once again, with just three losses since December 15.
