West Virginia vs Ohio State College Basketball Betting Preview

The Buckeyes and Mountaineers head to Cleveland for an important nonconference affair for both teams.

It's a big year for Jake Diebler after a disappointing season a year ago.

The Buckeyes have wins over Notre Dame and at Northwestern, but came up short in their most recent outing to Illinois earlier in the week.

Bruce Thornton is the heartbeat of this team, and is seemingly always making the right decision with the ball and can also get creative down on the block with some back-to-the-basket abilities.

The Buckeyes don't really force many turnovers and aren't the most swarming defensive unit, but they're typically in the right spots and do a good job of limiting opponents to one shot a trip.

Seven-footer Christoph Tilly is a unique matchup, and he can cause problems on both ends of the floor.

Offensively, Ohio State ranks 8th nationally in KenPom's effective field goal percentage rankings, a sign of a team that takes quality shots and knocks them down more times than not.

For West Virginia, it's the first season of the Ross Hodge era.

Other than a win against Pittsburgh back in November, the Mountaineers have struggled against other power four competition thus far in a young season.

Wake Forest, Clemson, and Xavier each caused problems for the WVU offense, which lacks playmakers and currently ranks outside the top 100 in Ken Pom's adjOE rankings.

West Virginia is guarding pretty well on the other end, but they are going to have to knock down shots to keep pace with an efficient Buckeye offense.

This game is on a neutral floor but you'd expect the OSU faithful to have more fans in the building given the closer proximity.

On the court, I just don't see WVU being able to score it with Ohio State.

Between Thornton, John Mobley Jr. and Devin Royal OSU has guys that can knock down shots from distance and also attack the rim.

That will allow the Buckeyes to create margin in this one and the young Mountaineers won't be able to catch up.

Give me Ohio State to win and cover in Cleveland.

My Pick: Ohio State -4 (Play to -4.5)
