Cincinnati vs West Virginia College Football Preview
Cincinnati Bearcats Betting Preview
Before Arizona went to Morgantown, it defeated Cincinnati 34-7 in Tucson. It was a humbling experience for Cincinnati, who had begun the season 4-0 and scored 30 points in each of its first four games. It will look to rebound off the bye week, and it may be a necessity with games against Texas Tech, Utah, and Houston to follow.
The Bearcats' offense has been one of the top units in the country, ranking in the top 30 in Explosiveness, Havoc Allowed, and points per opportunity. Quarterback JC French IV transferred in from Georgia Southern and has been highly efficient, completing 70% of his passes. He has yet to commit a turnover and is the only Big 12 starting quarterback that has not thrown an interception.
French has added a dual-threat element to the Cincinnati offense, throwing for six touchdowns while adding 193 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. He is joined in the backfield by the tandem of Gi'Bran Payne (392) and Cole Tabb (330), who are both over 300 rushing yards this season.
Tabb is second in the Big 12, averaging 9.7 yards per carry, and also leads the team with six touchdowns. Cincinnati ranks 12th in the FBS with 230.8 rushing yards per game and 10th with 17 rushing touchdowns.
Defensively, the Bearcats run a 3-3-5, and it has led to a lot of production from the linebackers and safeties. Linebackers Jonathan Thompson, Antwan Peek Jr., Simeon Coleman, Damaine Wilson, and safety Jasper Beeler all have 30 tackles or more. Thompson leads the way with 37 tackles, 5.5 for loss, 2.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
He leads a Bearcat group that has excelled at taking the ball away. They lead the Big 12 with nine forced fumbles and have four interceptions as well. The turnovers have helped mask a defense that is 103rd in Success Rate Allowed.

West Virginia Mountaineers Betting Preview
West Virginia began this season 3-0, but that has evaporated quickly with an 0-3 start in Big 12 play. Halfway through the regular season, two things have been pretty consistent about the Mountaineers: they have one of the best rushing attacks in the country and also an abysmal defense.
West Virginia ranks fourth in the FBS in rushing yards per game at 295.5. It has had 200 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns in every game this season. Typically, quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. and running back Cam Cook led the attack.
Cook has had a heavy workload this season, leading the FBS in carries (153) while ranking third in yards (793). Hawkins is tied for eighth in the FBS with 672 rushing yards and tied for first with 12 touchdowns.
Last week, they got more help than they have this season as Amari Latimer ran for 55 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. At 230 pounds, the freshman could emerge as a bruising complement to WVU's ground attack.
The Mountaineers average 36.3 points per game, but lately it still hasn't been enough. They have allowed 40 points in each of their last three games. Last week was not all on the defense, as a Cook fumble was returned for a touchdown. However, they still allowed 52 points, 482 total yards, and 341 passing yards to an Arizona team missing its top three receivers.
Big plays remain an issue as the Mountaineers have already allowed 43 plays of 20 yards or more. They are 128th in Passing Explosiveness Allowed. West Virginia's other defensive numbers are not much better as it ranks 131st in total defense, 136th in passing yards allowed per game, and tied 124th in scoring defense.
It has left fans and coaches alike frustrated with head coach Rich Rodriguez saying "It’s ridiculous giving up so many big plays.” while defensive coordinator Zach Alley saying "I think we’re the worst defense in college football".

Cincinnati vs West Virginia Pick, Betting Analysis
West Virginia is 6-0 to the over this season, with each of its last four games reaching at least 65 points. I expect that trend to move to 7-0 this week. Despite being a run-first team, West Virginia is great for overs because it plays at a fast pace, has an elite rushing attack, and a terrible defense.
Cincinnati should do its part offensively, having scored 31 points in four of its first five games. French could have a career day against this West Virginia secondary, which has allowed 300 passing yards in each of its last three games. Cincinnati has allowed 30.3 points over its last three games as well, one of which was against Miami (OH).
Hawkins and Cook have proven to be a tough assignment for most defenses this season, and they should find success against a West Virginia defense that is 114th in Rushing Success Rate Allowed. If both teams score 30 points as expected, this game should get comfortably over 62.5 points.
Pick: Over 62.5 (-112; Play to 64.5)
