Georgia Tech vs Wake Forest Preview

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Betting Preview
Georgia Tech enters the game 4-0, and it's been surging behind head coach Brent Key.
The Jackets' matchup against Wake Forest may seem like it should be smooth sailing, but think again.
The Yellow Jackets' offense ranks inside the top 30 in EPA/Pass, Available Yards and Early Down EPA/ Play. They'll be tested against a Wake Forest defense that's been surprisingly competent thus far.
Georgia Tech will be relatively healthy heading into the matchup, but it'll be without a starting cornerback, offensive lineman and tight end. On paper, the Jackets are the more talented group than the Deacons, but they're in a bit of a sleepy spot that could catch them off guard.
They'll need to improve defensively, especially against the run. They're 103rd in EPA/Rush and rank well below average in Stuff Rate.
As we know, the Deacons have a hell of a running back in Demond Claiborne, who's averaging over 10 yards per carry thus far. The Tech defense could be in trouble against the run, leading to it being on the field longer than it would like.
The Deacons' offense has been mediocre at best, so stopping the run will be a huge focal point if they are to win comfortably.
I hate the matchup against the Deacons' big offensive line and ground game, so I think the Jackets will have to do their part offensively to cover the large number.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons Betting Preview
The Deacons had 16 days of rest before this matchup, so they should be nice and fresh. Their last matchup was disappointing, as they blew a lead against NC State.
Their offense was cooking in the first half, as quarterback Robby Ashford was getting it done with his arm and his legs. But Ashford finished the game with two interceptions and was a mess in the second half.
Running back Demond Claiborne finished the game with only 12 carries for 35 yards, but the additional rest will favor him. The Georgia Tech defense has been atrocious against the run thus far, so I expect a heavy dose of Ashford and Claiborne to move the chains on the ground.
It's also important to note that the Deacons' defense has been excellent at stopping the run. That's really important against Georgia Tech, which loves to run as much as it can with quarterback Haynes King and running back Jamal Haynes.
The Deacons' defensive line is tenacious. The unit ranks well above the national average in Havoc, Stuff Rate and Line Yards. It's not surprising to see Georgia Tech's offensive line pushed around a bit.
Wake Forest has also had a lot of time to prepare for the game, which leads me to believe that the market isn't giving the Deacons enough credit here.
Yes, it was a very ugly second half against NC State, but the Deacons' overall body of work and strengths suggest that they match up nicely against the Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech vs Wake Forest Pick, Betting Analysis
The opening line has already ticked down, so I'll grab the +14 with Wake Forest at home. It's an excellent spot for the Deacs, especially since they have 16 days to prepare for this Georgia Tech offensive scheme.
The Deacons' defensive profile matches up nicely against this Georgia Tech rushing attack.
The extra rest will also benefit Claiborne, who was dealing with a rib injury early in the season.
As long as they avoid self-inflicting wounds, the Deacons should be able to move the ball consistently on the ground and put points up on the scoreboard. Georgia Tech's talent advantage should propel it to victory, but I like the Deacons at home to stay within the number.
If you're a trends player, Key has been outstanding ATS as an underdog but terrible as a favorite. The Jackets are 1-1 ATS this year as favorites but far below .500 over the last few seasons.
Pick: Wake Forest +14
