Hawaii vs Air Force Picks, Betting Analysis
Even with quarterback Micah Alejado returning, Hawaii’s offense looked jerky at home last week, averaging a season-low 4.1 yards per play. Alejado completed just 28 of his 47 passing attempts for 219 yards alongside three picks.
Hawaii is averaging fewer than 100 rushing yards per game at only 3.3 yards per carry, and the Rainbow Warriors have yet to rush for a touchdown this year.
To their credit, the ‘Bows are still trying to sprinkle in the run and keep the offense balanced. But it’s tough to have success in the run game when you can’t stretch the field vertically.
This week, we get Hawaii on the road — Timmy Chang’s team has not been good away from the Island — with Alejado still banged up.
I don’t have confidence in the offense, and I don’t have confidence in the defensive front to stop Air Force’s triple-option attack.
I thought the Falcons looked excellent last week against Boise with quarterback Liam Szarka at the helm, and I suspect we’ll see more of him this week.
Air Force ranks first nationally in Rush Success Rate and Standard Downs Success Rate, while Hawaii ranks 86th and 94th, respectively, in those categories on defense. Air Force also ranks eighth in Finishing Drives, while Hawaii ranks 74th in Finishing Drives allowed.
I expect the Air Force offense to move the ball and score consistently.
I think Hawaii is starting to wear down — this is its sixth straight game. They’re running out of gas and have to play at elevation this week. Not to mention it’s a brutal matchup.
At anything under a touchdown, I’ll be betting on Air Force.
Pick: Air Force -6.5 (-110, bet365)
