Memphis vs Troy Pick, Betting Analysis
Troy has taken on a significantly tougher schedule up to this point in the season. The Trojans have played a better FCS opponent and they went 15 rounds with Clemson last week. They led that game 16-3 at half, and it was just 20-16 well into the fourth quarter.
Troy even left points on the field in the first half with a missed field goal as time expired. I was ultimately really impressed with how Troy went in there and competed and was able to really hold down the Clemson attack.
Also, this game means more to Troy than it does to Memphis. And the Trojans were right there last year against the Tigers until Goose Crowder got hurt. He's back, and he played really well last week, completing 19-of-31 passes for 223 yards.
The Trojans also have two major dudes at receiver in Trey Taylor and Ethan Conner. If they can start to get RaRa Thomas more involved in the passing game with Goose, I think that this air attack can really give the Memphis secondary some real problems.
Defensively, Troy has been very stout on the ground, allowing just 3.3 yards per carry, and it's been good on third down. The Memphis offense is really predicated on trying to run the football; it gets its backs going downhill while running a little play action off of it or a little quarterback power.
However, I think Troy is going to be able to limit what Memphis wants to do on the ground.
There's going to be more pressure on the shoulders of Brendon Lewis, who will have a lot of looks thrown at him this week on the road, much more than Chattanooga and Georgia State.
This should be a really spirited game from Troy, as it wants to win. Goose is back healthy and has looked sharp thus far this season. Give me the 'dogs.
