Syracuse Orange Betting Preview: Battered by Injuries and Fatigue

Syracuse won at Clemson in late September, but in the process, it suffered a brutal break that has really hurt it big picture-wise wise this season.

Quarterback Steve Angeli, who had been playing very well to begin the year, suffered a season-ending injury in the second half of that game.

The Orange offense hasn't been able to replace him, with now-benched backup QB Rickie Collins really struggling.

In the five contests since the Clemson game, Syracuse has scored just 60 points total and has lost each game. Now, it has to go play a pissed-off Miami team on the road that needs to win out for any chance at a conference title berth.

It's hard to envision many paths to success for the Orange offense in this one, particularly against a Hurricane defensive front that's as good as any in the conference.

Syracuse has still been battling hard on the other side of the ball, but when the defense is on the field for so long, fatigue inevitably sets in.

For the Orange to have any chance of hanging around in this one, they will need to force a couple of turnovers and hold the Hurricanes to field-goal attempts when they do get into the red zone.

Give Fran Brown and staff credit for keeping this locker room together, but they just don’t have the personnel this year, especially after the Angeli injury.

Miami Hurricanes Betting Preview: From Dream to Nightmare

After a dream start to the season for the Hurricanes, things have gone south rather quickly.

When Miami beat rival Florida State in Tallahassee in early October, it moved to No. 2 in the country in both polls and appeared to be on cruise control to the College Football Playoff.

What has followed since then has been a 24-21 home loss to Louisville, and then an overtime loss at SMU last week.

Now, Miami is very likely going to miss the ACC Championship and will be in a precarious position to make the playoff if it wins out, given the Canes fell all the way to No. 18 in the committee’s rankings.

There’s still plenty of talent on this roster, but Mario Cristobal’s in-game management continues to be very costly in close games.

Fortunately for Canes fans, this one is very unlikely to be a close matchup. The talent gap between these two rosters is significant, and Miami has major matchup advantages on both sides of the ball.

The only concern here is Miami not getting off the bus ready to play after a heartbreaking loss last week in front of what will very likely be a Hard Rock Stadium crowd with plenty of open seats.

I don’t have a ton of faith in Cristobal to get his troops in the right bounce-back mindset, but at the same time, the Hurricanes' playmakers should win out over the course of four quarters.

Syracuse vs Miami Pick, Betting Analysis

With the Hurricanes sitting as 28.5-point favorites at the time of writing, it’s hard to see a ton of value on either side in this one.

That feels like a proper number given what both of these teams will be putting out on the field.

Where I do see some value is on the total, which currently sits at 45.5.

I find it very difficult to see how Syracuse finds the end zone in this game, and I frankly wouldn’t be shocked if it was held to six points or less.

On the other end, while Miami should generate some big plays down the field, I could see a bit of a sleepy start from the offense, and Cristobal will likely want to get some key players out once this game gets out of reach.

Give me the under at 45.5 in what could be a bit of an ugly one.

Pick: Under 45.5
