Excitement is growing at the Nittany Mall near State College, Pennsylvania.
The old Macy's is about to become the much-anticipated Happy Valley Casino. This new gaming spot, officially a Category 4 mini-casino, is expected to attract many visitors to the area.
Construction is almost finished, with work in its final stages. It won't be long before this former department store becomes an entertainment hub, ready to make a big difference in the local community. It's also going to be a smoke-free facility.
Happy Valley Casino Features and Offerings
Once open, Happy Valley Casino will offer a variety of gaming and entertainment options:
- Slot Machines: About 600 slot machines to start, with the possibility to expand to 750.
- Live Table Games: A selection of 30 games, including:
- Blackjack
- Roulette
- Craps
- Mississippi Stud
- Pai Gow Poker
- No Sports Betting: The casino will not include sports betting.
There are also no plans to include sports betting or online gaming when it first opens. In its first year, the casino won't have live poker games, but they might be added in the future.
In addition to gaming, the casino will have several amenities:
- Dining Options:
- A full-service restaurant for sit-down meals.
- A quick-service spot for those on the go.
- Social Space:
- A central bar for visitors to socialize and relax.
The casino will cover around 94,000 square feet, be smoke-free, and open 24/7, offering entertainment at any time of day or night.

Economic and Technological Impact on Happy Valley
Happy Valley Casino is expected to provide a big boost to the local economy by creating around 350 permanent jobs. To help fill these positions, the casino has organized job fairs and started a dealer school to train new staff.
On the technology side, the casino will use the SYNKROS system from Konami Gaming. This advanced system will help manage the casino smoothly and improve player loyalty, making sure everything runs efficiently and keeps customers happy.
The New Casino Is 18th in Pennsylvania
The journey to establishing Happy Valley Casino has been a five-year endeavor marked by overcoming legal and regulatory challenges.
Saratoga Casino Holdings, which secured a 60% ownership stake in January 2026, has navigated these hurdles with the help of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB). The project is valued at approximately $120 million and represents the 18th casino venture in the state.
As construction winds down, officials report that the project remains on schedule.

Anticipation Builds For Grand Opening
According to the Centre Daily Times, a spokesperson from the PGCB said the last big step before Happy Valley Casino can officially open is to hold two test nights. These test nights are like practice runs to make sure everything works well.
During these nights, gaming officials will check that the staff is trained properly, the money is counted accurately, and the slot machines are working with the central system. These test nights will serve as a soft launch to ensure operational readiness before doors officially open to the public.
“We are still on track for an April opening, but unfortunately can’t narrow down an estimated timeframe in which we’ll be announcing the opening date,” casino marketing manager Alaina Woelk said in an email to the Centre Daily Times this week. “As for remaining work, there’s still more landscaping, accent lighting, and additional signage to come.”
If everything goes smoothly, the casino could open just a few days after the tests.
Where is the Happy Valley Casino Located?
Doug Harbach, the PGCB Communications Director, mentioned that all 17 of the previous commercial casinos in Pennsylvania passed their test nights without problems. He added that there are no other approvals needed before Happy Valley Casino can hold its test nights.
If you want to check it out for yourself, it's located at 2901 E. College Ave., in College Township.
Happy Valley Casino is expected to become a central entertainment hub for locals and visitors to the Penn State area. As the final preparations fall into place, the community eagerly awaits the official announcement of the grand opening date, marking a new era of entertainment in the region.
