Long Night for Bobrovsky and Florida Panthers?

The Florida Panthers enter this contest on the second half of a back-to-back following last night's exhilarating 4-3 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers in what was arguably the game of the year thus far.

After cashing on the over in that contest, we are going back to the well once again as the Panthers complete their Alberta swing against the Flames.

Florida enters this matchup amid a flurry of high-scoring games. There have been seven or more total goals scored in each of their last seven games, a trend that should continue in this matchup with goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky slated to take the crease for the Panthers.

It has been a tough start to the campaign for Florida's netminder, who is just 4-5-1 with a .888 SV% and 3.62 GAA. Bobrovsky enters this game in particularly poor form, allowing four or more goals in three of his last four starts.

Across that stretch, he possesses a troubling .862 SV% and 4.90 GAA. There were seven or more total goals scored in all four of those games.

Based on his metrics, there should not be a ton of optimism for positive regression since Bobrovsky ranks just 25th among starting goaltenders in goals saved above expected per 60 minutes (GSAx/60) at 5v5. This poor start to the year is likely to continue against Calgary, a team he has struggled against over the last couple of seasons.

Through his last four starts against the Flames, Bobrovsky is 1-2-1 with a .860 SV% and 4.70 GAA. There were seven or more total goals scored in three of those four outings.

The good news for Bobrovsky is that the Panthers should give him plenty of goal support. At 5v5 this season, Florida ranks second in the league in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60).

Net Also Wide Open for Calgary Flames?

Across the ice, goaltender Jacob Markstrom is slated to get the start between the pipes for the Calgary Flames. Like Bobrovsky, it has been a tough start to the campaign for Markstrom.

Through 16 starts this year, he possesses a .889 SV% and 3.03 GAA. In terms of metrics, Markstrom ranks just 26th among starting goaltenders in GSAx/60 at 5v5.

This poor stretch of goaltending is likely to continue against Florida, a team he has struggled against across the last couple of seasons. Over his last five starts against the Panthers, Markstrom possesses a .891 SV% and 3.62 GAA.

There were seven or more total goals scored in three of those five outings. Playing in front of Markstrom is a team that could be primed for some positive regression offensively.

At 5v5, Calgary ranks 17th in the league in GF/60 but 13th in xGF/60. There should not be too much concern about the Flames' slow start this season, which is primarily due to the fact that they are still figuring things out in terms of chemistry after a big change in personnel over the offseason.

Panthers vs. Flames Pick

Just like the first matchup between these two teams, we should expect another high-paced, high-scoring affair on Tuesday night. In fact, there have now been seven or more total goals scored in five of the last eight meetings between these two clubs.

Florida possesses one of the deepest offenses in the league while the Flames have more than enough firepower to keep up. The Panthers attempt to turn games into track meets, which is a recipe for the over whenever they play.

Mixing in the fact that Bobrovsky and Markstrom are both struggling out of the gates this season, seven goals should not be difficult to come by.

Pick: Over 6 (-115) | Play up to Over 6.5 (-125)
