Chile Prediction

Chile is in a dire situation. The team is dead last in the standings with only 10 points, but because of the World Cup expansion, they can still harbor hopes of qualifying via a play-off.

To be worthy of that chance, Chile needs to catch Venezuela, the current holder of seventh place, which would concede such an opportunity. They are five points apart but must contend with Peru (9th) and Bolivia (8th) in that chase.

Manager Ricardo Gareca has tried nearly every possible player he has thought of for the past year and a half, and that includes bringing back veterans Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez, key players of the "Golden Generation" that won two Copa America editions in consecutive finals against tonight's rival, Argentina.

This rivalry only worsens things. Argentina has already secured a spot in the World Cup and will play without pressure. Also, the World Champions' motivation of possibly taking out Chile for good should not be underestimated.

Due to injuries, Chile will miss Paulo Diaz, Luciano Cabral, and Charles Aranguiz in this match.

Argentina Prediction

The last fixture was a full-on celebration for Argentina. They beat archrivals Brazil 4-1 and qualified for the 2026 World Cup with 31 points.

It was also important that they did that without Lionel Messi, who was still recovering from a muscle injury and missed the Uruguay and Brazil matches in March.

Now, Messi is back and ready to have fun. He will lead the attack along with Julian Alvarez, while the team awaits Lautaro Martinez, who was allowed to travel late and get some rest after playing last Saturday with Inter in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Albiceleste will feature a renovated midfield since Alexis McAllister was scratched due to injury, and Leandro Paredes and Enzo Fernandez are suspended.

With only Rodrigo De Paul confirmed, manager Lionel Scaloni will probably turn to Exequiel Palacios to play alongside De Paul and use more offensive-minded players down the flanks, such as Giuliano Simeone and Nico Gonzalez.

Central defender Nicolas Otamendi is also out due to suspension, so Scaloni will likely pair Leonardo Balerdi with starter Cristian "Cuti" Romero.

Chile vs. Argentina Pick

Chile's urgency could play against them. After this game, they must travel to El Alto to face Bolivia at 4,150 meters of altitude, which does not bode well for their aspirations (in more than one sense).

So if Chile gets desperate and goes all out on attack at some point, Argentina will do damage on the counter with speedy players such as Alvarez and Nico Gonzalez.

The Albiceleste is comfortable enough with letting the game come to them, and with a contented Messi leading the charge, this match seems to spell doom for the home team.
