Liberty vs Dream Preview

One of the funniest stories of my legendary high school basketball coach, Norm Persin, was in one particularly bad practice for us.

He kicked a ball off the wall and sent us to the baseline while berating us with, "You're all a bunch of turnovers! Apple! Cherry! Strawberry!" while pointing at different individuals to demonstrate his point.

That's what I think of when I look at this Liberty/Dream matchup. In four head-to-head games this season, the Liberty have had turnover counts of 19, 11, 18, 21 (Game 1). Atlanta has capitalized on these turnovers with 14, 17, and 32 points per game off them. The Dream turns up the pressure and gets out in transition for easy buckets — they've outscored the Liberty 53-11 in transition points through four meetings.

I always say the team who wins the "easy points" battle will win the game, and Atlanta also has dominated the paint points, outscoring New York by 32 over those four games.

Liberty vs Dream Prediction

The Liberty have beaten Atlanta one time this season — that win required New York to shoot 54% from the field and 51% from three. So unless you're counting on them going nuclear like that against this Dream pressure tonight in game two, I just don't see Atlanta losing.

Now, Allisha Gray is out for Atlanta, and that's not something to gloss over; however, she left in the second quarter in game one and the Dream proceeded to go from down three to up 14 after the third quarter before ultimately winning the game without her.

If Sandy Brondello was still coaching New York, I might have a different opinion, but TSI projects Atlanta -4 even without Gray tonight, so I think this line is way too cheap. I'm taking the home favorite on the moneyline.

Best Bet: Dream ML -122
