Aces vs. Valkyries Preview

The Golden State Valkyries struck first in the WNBA Semifinals with a decisive 71-60 victory over the Las Vegas Aces in Game 1. Gabby Williams led Golden State's offense, scoring 25 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and delivering five assists. Golden State dominated the glass early, pulling down six offensive rebounds in the first quarter alone, but limited their own damage despite turning the ball over 14 times.

Las Vegas, on the other hand, suffered from an unusually cold shooting night. While A'ja Wilson paced the offense with 24 points and Chelsea Gray added 16 points while becoming the WNBA's all-time postseason assists leader (411), the Aces converted just 26.3% of their field goal attempts in a brutal third quarter. Las Vegas protected the ball cleanly with only six turnovers, but their inability to finish inside or convert second-chance looks ultimately dug a hole they couldn't shoot out of.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions about the Aces just yet. Las Vegas generated clean perimeter looks and won the turnover differential 14-6, indicating their core execution remains sound. However, Golden State’s rebounding rim protection disrupted the Aces' secondary scoring, making their physical presence on the glass the defining metric to track moving into Game 2.

Aces vs. Valkyries Prediction

After Golden State dominated the boards 52-25 in a decisive 71-60 Game 1 victory over Las Vegas, forward Kayla Thornton emerges as a prime target in player prop markets. Thornton was an absolute force on the glass in the series opener, snagging 11 rebounds. If the Valkyries clean up their turnovers in Game 2, their glass dominance will generate even more second-chance scoring opportunities for physical forwards like Thornton.

Our Action PRO System projects Thornton for 8.55 points, unlocking a juicy 21.9% edge on Over 6.5 Points (-113 at FanDuel). Her active interior presence makes this scoring barrier surprisingly low for her projected usage.

With her glass cleaning directly dictating Game 1's flow, pairing Over 6.5 Points with Over 4.5 Rebounds (-106 at FanDuel) creates a high-value parlay for tonight’s matchup. Expect Thornton to maintain her aggressive physical footprint and clear both lines with ease.
