The 151st Open Championship begins on Thursday at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, England.
First-round leader is one of the most popular markets for the opening round, and bets have been rolling in at BetMGM.
Rory McIlroy is one of the favorites after winning the Scottish Open last week. He is also the most popular bet at BetMGM to be the first-round leader at +1800 odds. McIlroy is getting 7.2% of the bets and accounts for 6.9% of the handle.
Rickie Fowler is another popular pick to be leading after the first round at +3300. One of the hottest players on the planet, Fowler is coming off a win at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He's getting 5.2% of the bets and accounts for 3.9% of the handle at BetMGM.
Brooks Koepka also has +3300 odds to be the opening round leader. The PGA Championship winner is getting 5.1% of the tickets and accounts for 4.2% of the handle.
The other popular pick is the betting favorite at BetMGM to win the tournament. Scottie Scheffler is getting 4.9% of the bets and accounts for 5.8% of the handle with +2000 odds to be the first-round leader.
Viktor Hovland, Patrick Cantlay and Tommy Fleetwood are a few of the other popular picks to be leading at BetMGM.
But all of the sharp action appears to be on Cameron Smith. The defending champion isn't getting much respect on the "to win" markets with +1600 odds, but the sharps are hammering him to be the first-round leader. Smith is currently getting 4.5% of the bets and accounts for 15.2% of the handle.
