New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom capped off one of the best seasons in MLB history on Wednesday night, giving up zero earned runs and only two hits over eight innings in a 3-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
New York's ace lowered his ERA to a minuscule 1.70 on the season while notching his 10th win in the process.
With deGrom's unimpressive 10-9 record, the NL Cy Young debate rages on between old-school sports writers who believe win-loss records are crucial, and those who dismiss records as antiquated when evaluating starting pitchers.
For sports bettors, traditional wins don't matter — especially for those wagering on MLB totals. As you can imagine, deGrom was an extremely profitable pitcher for over/under bettors to back in 2018, posting an under record of 20-10-2 (66.7%).
According to Bet Labs, deGrom is currently 11th among all MLB starters in terms of units won betting on unders.
Here's a look at the top 10:
At 8.1 units won, anyone betting $100 on the under in each of deGrom's starts would have earned a nice profit of $810 this season.
