Phillies vs Brewers Pick, Betting Analysis

In game one, the Brewers gave the ball to the Miz. Now, the Phillies will counter in the finale with CY Young contender Cristopher Sanchez.

Sanchez has given up just three runs in his last 54 innings, two coming in his last outing against the Blue Jays. We're at the point where seven innings and two runs feel like a "bad start" for Sanchez, which speaks to his dominance.

He boasts a 1.54 ERA with a 2.77 xERA and a 1.86 FIP. He also went 7+ innings in his last seven outings.

Over the past month, the Phillies rank 28th in MLB with an 85 wRC+. They still hit for plenty of power, ranking 12th in home runs, but it's been their only source of offense, as they hit .213 (29th) and strike out 26.2% of the time (30th).

Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber have done their job, posting 142 and 136 wRC+, respectively. If some of the supporting pieces fall into place, the Phillies' offense should play better.

Things are beginning to trend in the right direction, though. The Phillies erupted for seven or more runs in four of their last eight games, winning all four.

Don’t let Kyle Harrison’s 2.72 ERA fool you. His ERA was a pristine 1.57 before pitching in the atrocity that is the Athletics AAA Ballpark in Las Vegas.

Despite his eight earned runs in a 2 1/3 inning meltdown earlier this week, Harrison sports a sub-3.00 ERA with a solid 3.46 xERA and 3.11 FIP.

Harrison is right in the mix as a top-10 pitcher in the sport this year. However, I would hesitate to label him in the upper tier of pitchers due to his lack of innings. He has just 59 innings pitched through 12 starts, including just one of more than six innings.

It's quite impressive that Harrison has become a frontline starter with a two-pitch mix. His bread and butter is his mid-to-high-90s fastball, which he throws 60% of the time, while mixing in his nasty slurve 30% of the time.

Milwaukee has hit in some hitters' paradises in the last month, playing a week's worth of games in Colorado and Vegas. I don't say that to minimize how well it's hit of late, ranking third in MLB with a 120 wRC+ since May 15th.

However, it adds a little context. Playing in environments like that would boost any team's numbers.

The studs of late have been Jake Bauers. who sports a 190 wRC+ with seven homers in his past 24 games, Jackson Chourio has a 150 wRC+ with six homers, and Christian Yelich has a 122 wRC+. That trio is the heart and soul of this Milwaukee offense.

Although I just propped up Yelich and Bauers, I'll toss some cold water on them here.

Both are left-handed hitters — and while both handle lefties well, Sanchez is a different breed. He holds lefties to a .143 average with a .359 OPS and just one homer all season.

Milwaukee will start at least four left-handed hitters, so this is just a bad matchup.

Perhaps Andrew Vaughn, who sports a 315 wRC+ against southpaws in 38 ABs, will pitch in some power.

In all, it's too hard to pass on the Phillies to win a Sanchez start at a -118 price tag. Even on the road, he's one of the best pitchers in the sport — if not the best and I'll look to back him when the price warrants it — and it does here.

Pick: Phillies ML (Play to -145)
