Bane hasn't been sharp this season, but a golden opportunity now opens up for him with Paolo Banchero out. Per RotoGrinders' CourtIQ, Bane has averaged 22.25 PA per 36 minutes this season when Banchero is on the court. When Banchero is off the court, that per-36 number jumps to 30.38. There's no guarantee he'll turn things around and maintain those rates tonight, but I'll bite at these odds and matchup. The Nets rank dead last in defensive efficiency, so this is as good as it gets. RotoGrinders has Bane projected for 27.46 PA, so that also aligns with mine.

The Orlando Magic take on the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night for NBA Cup action. The magic will be without a key player in Paolo Bacarro, who suffered a groin injury against the New York Knicks on Wednesday. This has traditionally opened up more usage and opportunity for Franz Wagner; however, I expect this to work similarly for Desmond Bane. Beans sees significant ticks in not only his points per 100 possessions, but also his assist per 100 possessions and his overall Usage without Banchero on the floor. This aligns a bit with the eye test as it has seemed that Bane has struggled to fully acclimate himself to the game plan along two other high usage and ball dominant players. Bane often found success with his time in Memphis when one of Ja Morant or Jaren Jackson Jr. were on the bench and he could spread his wings a bit. Knowing that Banchero will be off the floor, I expect the Magic to try and stagger Bane and Franz a bit more to ensure at least one is on the floor at all times. This line is high for Bane this season; however, there’s plenty of opportunity for him to get rolling tonight against a very poor Nets team.

I’m a little scared here. The Nets have actually taken money, showing that when sharps see value, no spot is too scary for them. I actually make this just under the number at Magic -12.4 But this is the Cup. Point differential matters. Some trends, per KillerSports.com: * Orlando is 5-0 SU and ATS at home in cup play the last three seasons, with an average margin of victory of 17 points * Teams with a winning percentage of less than 30 percent are 0-10 SU in cup play on the road, losing by an average of 16.7 points * Their ATS margin in those games is -4.2 Orlando’s schedule-adjusted numbers are way better than their raw performance; they actually come in at No.13 schedule-adjusted offensively. This isn’t just trying to carry through the good vibes of this week after their thriller gamewinner over the Blazers and road win over the Heat, it’s to improve their chances of a trip to Vegas. Even without Paolo Banchero, I’ll lay the points, even if it feels like a trap.

Line should be closer to -15.5 or -16, over adjustment with the Paolo news.
