College Baseball Picks

March begins with the third weekend of college baseball, with a number of teams already building a solid identity.

The latest power rankings provided by Action Network saw a few teams jockey among the top eight Super Regional seeds, while Alabama and Duke have announced their arrival.

A number of notes can be made after the second week of play.

  • Aiden May, Oregon State's Friday night ace and staff anchor, left his game against Arkansas with an injury. His status against North Dakota State is unknown.
  • TCU, Texas A&M, Duke, Virginia, Alabama and Dallas Baptist remain the only undefeated teams in the top 25.
  • Troy, a preseason long-shot futures pick, is 7-1 with the sixth-most runs scored in Division I. The Trojans face Alabama — another team in the top 10 — on March 6.
  • Arkansas ace Hagen Smith faced 22 Oregon State batters in Arlington, striking out 17 in a 5-4 Razorback victory. Smith leads the nation in strikeouts per nine innings, just ahead of teammate and Sunday starter Mason Molina in third place.
  • Georgia leads the nation in home runs per nine innings and slugging percentage. The Bulldogs will miss Arkansas and LSU on the conference schedule.

The third week of college baseball features plenty of high-profile matchups.

Clemson and South Carolina are expected to host Regionals in June, but a head-to-head series gives each team a chance to make a case as a top-eight team early in the season.

Another SEC-ACC showdown will take place at Alex Rodriguez Park, as Miami plays host to Florida. The Hurricanes boast a top-five power lineup going against one of the best pitching staffs in the nation.

This weekly article will look at the biggest series of the weekend and present projections for potential pitching matchups. We'll take a look at a combination of each team's top three projected starters and their potential baseline spread and total.

For the first month of the season, projections will be prorated against numbers from the 2023 season. This will be the final weekend with data from the 2023 season.

Sides are based on a calculation of ERA, FIP and xFIP. The total is based on the same numbers, along with calculated base runs and park factors.
