Florida vs Texas A&M College Basketball Betting Preview
Florida Basketball
Florida has been one of the best teams in the country for the last month and comes into this big time matchup at 16-6 overall and 7-2 in SEC play.
Since January 6, Florida has been the third-best team in the country with the third-best defense and fifth-best offense, according to Bart Torvik.
Florida's frontcourt continues to be a dominant force on both ends of the floor. Alex Condon continues to be one of the more underrated defenders in the country. He's recorded a block or a steal in 18 of 21 games he's played in this season, while holding opponents to 24.6% shooting on jumpers and 32.7% around the rim.
Rueben Chinyelu is averaging 15.6 points and 13.4 rebounds in the last seven games. He flashed his ability to guard the perimeter against Alabama, locking down Labaron Philon Jr. and Latrell Wrightsell on the same possession to force a shot clock violation.
The one area that Florida has struggled with has been guarding the ball handler on pick-and-rolls.
Though Boogie Fland had an outstanding game against Alabama — especially defensively with eight steals — opponents are shooting 55% as the ball handler off pick-and-rolls against him and 46% when guarded by his backcourt mate, Xaivian Lee.
Luckily for Florida, Texas A&M doesn't do much of that, so that'll allow the Gators to be aggressive in the passing lanes.
Texas A&M Basketball
Bucky Ball has been fun to watch so far this season, as the Aggies sit at 17-5 overall and 7-2 in SEC play after their tough loss at Alabama.
Since the start of SEC play, Texas A&M ranks as the 13th-best team in the country, via Bart Torvik, thanks to its execution of Bucky Ball on both ends of the floor.
Texas A&M currently has the best 3-point shooting team and forces the highest turnover rate in the conference.
The Aggies are looking to get out and push the tempo. In their loss to Alabama, they attempted nine shots in transition and had several spot-up looks in the half-court offense within the first 10 seconds of the shot clock.
With a pace like theirs, it's easy for defenses to get confused and leave shooters open, forcing the Aggies to make them pay.
Six guys score in double figures for the Aggies, while six guys shoot 36% or better from 3.
6-foot-7 center Rashaun Agee leads the teams in points (14.2) and rebounds (8.7) while also hitting 5-of-12 3s in the last three games.
Florida vs. Texas A&M Betting Analysis
This is a very unique matchup. On one hand, you have an offense in Florida that's proven it can score 100 points without relying on making 3s. Meanwhile, Texas A&M's offense is made for running and gunning from beyond the arc.
As fun as Bucky Ball is, the Aggies' biggest weakness is Florida's greatest strength.
Florida has the fifth-best offensive rebounding percentage in the country (41%), while Texas A&M has one of the worst defensive rebounding percentages in the country (34.7%).
The Gators' frontcourt has proven throughout the season that they're comfortable guarding the perimeter. Even if the Aggies hit from deep, Alabama made 14 3s against Florida and it didn't make a dent.
Though the Aggies are at home and can make a lot of triples, Florida is dominating the paint against teams, and Texas A&M has no answer for Florida's frontcourt.
My Pick: Florida -6
