Purdue vs Nebraska College Basketball Betting Preview

Purdue Basketball

The Boilermakers are now 19-4 overall and 9-3 in Big Ten play and have won two straight games after beating Oregon 68-64.

Even when you account for its last two wins, Purdue ranks 325th in defensive effective field goal percentage (56.5%) in its last five games.

Oregon has the worst offense in the Big Ten and the second-worst 2-point shooting team in the conference. Even still, it shot 12-of-17 from around the rim against Purdue.

On the other side of the ball, Purdue is still one of the more efficient teams in the country. The Boilermakers are second in 2-point percentage and third in 3-point percentage in conference play.

The 3-point number will continue to go up as well, with Fletcher Loyer getting hot at the right time. He's averaging 23.5 points on 71% from 3 in the last two games.

Nebraska Basketball

Nebraska snapped its two game losing streak with an 80-68 win against Rutgers. The Cornhuskers now sit at 21-2 overall and 10-2 in Big Ten play.

This offense continues to be dynamic, leading the Big Ten in 3-point percentage.

Even when the 3s don't fall — like they weren't against Rutgers — Nebraska can play through Rienk Mast. Mast is a big man who's reliable in the two-man game, but he can also post up on the block, where he can utilize his hook shot.

According to KenPom, Nebraska ranks 205th in tempo. Though the Huskers like to run half-court sets, they're looking to push it in transition, whether it's a layup or a deep 3.

Sometimes the box scores are deceiving because Nebraska only had two fast break points against Rutgers, but it attempted eight shots.

The main player to watch not only in the game but in transition is Pryce Sandfort. Sandfort is the Cornhuskers' leading scorer at 17.1 points per game and he's looking to be aggressive in transition, where he shoots 43% from deep.

Purdue vs. Nebraska Betting Analysis

I still have question marks with this Purdue defense.

Oregon, which has the worst offense in the conference, got good looks out of the pick-and-roll with Nate Bittle.

Now Purdue is going on the road to guard a Nebraska offense that's excellent scoring out of the two-man game, whether it's the ball handler scoring, the big man rolling/popping, or the offensive action creating a skip pass to an open shooter.

The Cornhuskers are going to spread out this Purdue defense and make the Boilermakers have to guard the perimeter.

If Purdue guards the perimeter aggressively, Nebraska will burn the Boilers with its off ball cutting, where it's scoring at a 71% clip.

My Pick: Nebraska -1.5
