Xavier vs Georgetown College Basketball Betting Preview

Xavier Basketball

In Richard Pitino’s first season at Xavier, the Musketeers are experiencing moderate success. At 8-4, they have a tall task traveling to Georgetown in the midst of its third full season with a new regime and Ed Cooley.

Overall, the Musketeers have been very inconsistent, with losses to Iowa, Santa Clara and Creighton all by double digits. After losing by 41 points in their last effort, we can only assume they’ll have more substantial energy in this game.

Their leader this season has been FAU transfer Tre Carroll. He’s also been one of Xavier's best scoring threats, touching double digits in every game, except for the loss to Creighton last time out.

One thing Xavier does exceptionally well is limit turnovers. It ranks fifth in turnover percentage and 17th in unforced turnovers offensively. The one caveat with those impressive stats is that the No. 1 team in the country when it comes to limiting turnovers is Georgetown.

Cooley is in his third season with the Hoyas, and it’s been a good start to this campaign. But Hoya fans have to be cautious, because this team also started 12-2 last season before losing 12 of its last 16 regular-season games.

Including KJ Lewis and Malik Mack, Georgetown has three other players averaging double digits. Caleb Williams also does an excellent job of grabbing rebounds, helping the Hoyas land in the top third of college basketball, both offensively and defensively.

Georgetown struggles shooting the 3, hitting at a 28.8% clip. While the Hoyas do play a little up-tempo, we have two teams that don't give the ball away, and Georgetown's defense doesn’t generate many turnovers.

Xavier vs. Georgetown Betting Analysis

It’s a challenging read either way in this matchup, but I do think we have a good opportunity to take the under. It currently sits at 150.5 (at the time of writing), but I think we might get a slower-paced game with limited opportunities for second-chance points either way.

If we take this game at base value and look at metrics for pure shooting, I think this game will be paced more towards the under.

Georgetown is terrible beyond the arc, but it still takes a decent number of 3-pointers.

If this game is close at the end and comes down to free throws, neither team hits at a high enough clip for us to be worried.

My Pick: Under 150.5 (Play to 150)
