Temple Betting Stats & 2019 Season Profile

  • Season Record: 8-4
  • Against-the-Spread Record: 8-4
  • Conference: AAC
  • Offense Yards Per Play Rank: 92
  • Defense Yards Per Play Rank: 15
  • S&P+ Special Teams Rank: 46

Analysis: Temple did its usual thing under first-year and former NIU coach Rod Carey — go about 8-4, pull one big upset, but lose to the teams you’re supposed to lose to. The Owls got their doors blown off by UCF and SMU, allowing more than 100 combined points in consecutive weeks, but beat Memphis and probably should have beat Cincinnati (a blocked extra point returned for two points did them in). As usual, the Temple defense was much better than the offense, but it was a pretty solid group overall, ranking 37th in yards per play differential. — Steve Petrella

North Carolina Betting Stats & 2019 Season Profile

  • Season Record: 6-6
  • Against-the-Spread Record: 6-5-1
  • Conference: ACC
  • Offense Yards Per Play Rank: 24
  • Defense Yards Per Play Rank: 61
  • S&P+ Special Teams Rank: 76

Analysis: Victories over Mercer and NC State to end the season got North Carolina and first-year head coach Mack Brown into a bowl game. Led by true freshman Sam Howell, the Tar Heels have ranked top 35 in passing success rate and top 20 in pass explosiveness. Howell has been responsible for dramatic second-half comebacks the entire season, including against Duke, Miami and South Carolina. With a youth-filled roster, expect Brown and the coaching staff to use the postseason game as early prep for the 2020 season. Brown had a 10-5 record in bowl games at Texas. — Collin Wilson
