Missouri Tigers Betting Preview

Missouri’s recent resume is obviously impressive, after beating down both Florida and Texas A&M the past two weeks, but how can we be so sure that those wins are good wins?

Both the Gators and the Aggies are on the downslope. A&M is likely going to miss any hope of making the College Football Playoffs, and after a hot start to the season for Florida, it seems like the Gators are in the midst of their growing pains stage.

Prior to that, Mizzou fell to Mississippi State at the height of the Kamario Taylor hype, so it tells me that the Tigers are good enough to beat middling teams, but not good enough to beat higher-end teams.

I’ll give quarterback Austin Simmons his flowers, who’s having an efficient year and only threw his first pick of the season last week.

The problem is, this offense is largely unspectacular.

At the forefront, the Tigers are 94th in Havoc allowed. The offensive line has been hurting the offense more often than not.

Simmons is posting solid numbers, but it could be better. He’s been sacked six times already, and the talented receivers Cayden Lee and Donovan Olugbode are the only two consistent targets.

Defensively, it's where the Tigers shine, ranking fourth in Havoc, generating it on 21.7% of snaps. Daeden Hopkins and Donta Simpson are both the main culprits in generating 112 combined sacks. Additionally, Mizzou does an exceptional job at stopping both the rush and the pass, ranking in the top-30 in Success Rate allowed for both.

Ole Miss Rebels Betting Preview

Here’s what’s really interesting.

I just slammed Mizzou for beating Florida when the Gators were on the downslope. But who did Florida beat the week before it played the Tigers?

Ole Miss.

It’s a fascinating chain of events here.

The Rebels have a lot going for them, with quarterback Trinidad Chambliss leading the pack and likely to be in the race for the Heisman Trophy. But their defense is absolutely atrocious.

The one thing that Ole Miss does do a solid job at is generating pressure on the quarterback, which could end up being what separates the Rebels in this matchup. We noted that Missouri’s offensive line has been brutal. Advantage Ole Miss.

However, everything else has been less than stellar. The defense against the pass ranks 103rd in Success Rate allowed and is 115th in rushing Success Rate allowed. Even more so, the Rebels allow 176 rushing yards per game, good enough for 104th in the FBS.

Even though Chambliss has been red-hot and a major catalyst for the offense, the run game has been ultra-efficient. The difference is, you’d be hard-pressed to find a big play from the ground.

This team likes to move up the field quickly using Chambliss’ arm, which will be fun to watch against Mizzou’s defense.

Missouri vs Ole Miss NCAAF Pick to Bet

I think both of these programs match up really well with each other.

The spread is listed at 6.5, and I think that’s a little harsh. I anticipate Missouri’s defense will cause a lot of headaches for Chambliss. Marcel Reed is nowhere near the threat of Chambliss, but both can take off on any given day. Mizzou made Reed look ineffective on the ground last week.

There’s reason to target either Mizzou +6.5 or the under, but I think I like riding with the Tigers here.

I may have my reservations about Missouri, but the Rebels haven’t separated themselves from being a true powerhouse. They’ve been stuck in close games with Louisville and LSU, and were throttled by Florida.

One little tidbit that I didn’t add in my preview was that Mizzou running back Jamal Roberts took off last week for 222 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Given Ole Miss’ inefficiencies against the run, this seems like a nice recipe for Mizzou to either win or keep it close.

Pick: Missouri +6.5
