Nebraska vs Oregon College Football Preview
Nebraska Cornhuskers Betting Preview: Shuckin' and Jivin'
One of the biggest storylines about the Nebraska season is how much better it got after Dylan Raiola left town.
Anthony Colandrea has been a revelation since coming in from UNLV, completing 64% of his passes with an impressive 13:3 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Half of those passing scores went to Kwazi Gilmer, the UCLA transfer.
Colandrea had a rough outing against Indiana, and for the most part, it seemed as if Nebraska was going to pull away. But in traditional Nebraska fashion, it ended up blowing it against the defending champs, losing 20-17.
It was a rough outing for the Huskers’ defense, a defense that has been really strong all season long. But Indiana scored on a one-play, 75-yard touchdown to Nick Marsh, which all but sealed the game for the Huskers. After that, the Hoosiers pulled away for good.
Head coach Matt Rhule has developed a reputation at the college level that he can’t win the big one. Last week proved that it’s still true.
The Huskers’ run game should be used effectively, ranking 39th in Success Rate and third in explosiveness. Jamal Rule and Mekhi Nelson have split the carries, with Rule averaging 6.8 yards per carry and Nelson being more of a threat through the air.
There’s definitely a lot of talent on this defense, but they are prone to giving up big plays. Defensive back Dwayne McDougle has been a tackling machine and recorded an 81-yard pick-six.
Nebraska’s pass rush has also been really strong, generating Havoc on 18.5% of plays. DL Jahsear Whittington leads the team with 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
Oregon Ducks Betting Preview: Broken Beak
Oregon has been one of the biggest disappointments this season. Coming into the season with championship hopes, it has now dropped two games in the first five games.
The Ducks will continue to be without quarterback Dante Moore, and it may be Raiola getting the start against his old program, Nebraska. Raiola looked strong in relief against USC, completing 76% of his passes with a pair of touchdowns.
However, when Oregon took on UCLA, Raiola was completely exposed, throwing two picks and only completing six out of 19 attempts. Ultimately, he was benched for Brock Thomas, a walk-on.
It will hurt the Ducks this week, as they won’t have wide receivers Jeremiah McClellan or Evan Stewart, which means Dakorien Moore will need to step up as more of a volume receiver.
A big reason why this season has been brutal is because of Oregon’s change of approach to the run. Last season, the Ducks averaged 36.6 rushing attempts per game, while this season, they average 28.8 attempts, which is 126th in the FBS.
Jordon Davison and Dierre Hill Jr. have essentially split the carries, with Davison averaging just under five yards per carry. But they both have lacked the explosiveness needed to be truly effective.
The run game may be ranked 62nd, but because Oregon doesn’t run the ball as much, the offense has become very predictable.
There are a ton of stars on this defense, including safety Koi Perich, who leads the team in solo tackles and two picks, as well as defensive tackle Matayo Uiagalelei, with five sacks.
Overall, the Ducks have an impressive secondary, but the defense has been the clear definition of mediocre, so it’s hard to take it seriously.

Nebraska vs Oregon Pick, Betting Analysis
I never thought, when looking at the schedule, of taking the Huskers to cover, but here we are.
Oregon has been brutal when it comes to the spread, while the Huskers are 5-1.
I’m typically not a believer in moral victories, but I think there’s something to be said about how Nebraska had the Hoosiers on their heels for most of last week. The Huskers are better than their reputation says; it’s really about closing games, which they still can’t do.
Needless to say, with the spread being a full touchdown, I don’t think it’s out of the question to pick Nebraska to cover. Whether it’s Raiola or Thomas starting, I think this will end up being a positive for the Husker defense.
Pick: Nebraska +6.5
