There was a big shakeup on the Las Vegas sportsbook scene Tuesday afternoon, when one of the longest-running and most successful independent operators entered into a partnership with a big national brand.

Caesars Entertainment and Westgate Las Vegas announced the deal, partnering Caesars Sports with The SuperBook. Pending approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission, the renowned independent sportsbook will operate as Westgate SuperBook, powered by Caesars Sportsbook.

There remain additional details to work out. But suffice it to say, the partnership was a surprising development on the sports betting landscape.

High Visibility

The SuperBook’s transition is expected before football season begins. A news release from Caesars Entertainment stated that Caesars Sports will oversee race and sportsbook operations and technology.

Eric Hession, co-president of Caesars Sports and Online Gaming, noted The SuperBook’s brand value in his news release remarks.

“The Westgate SuperBook is one of the most recognizable sportsbook destinations in the world, and we are proud to partner with Westgate on the next chapter of its evolution,” Hession said. “By powering The SuperBook with our sportsbook platform, we’re combining a legendary sportsbook environment with a modern betting menu and added convenience that reflects how sports fans want to wager today.”

Cami Christensen, president and general manager of Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino, leaned into The SuperBook’s legacy and her hopes that this partnership builds on that.

“Since opening in 1986, our SuperBook has been a defining part of the Las Vegas sports betting landscape,” Christensen said. “We are incredibly proud of that legacy and thrilled to partner with Caesars Sportsbook to take it to the next level, combining decades of history with innovation, scale and an even more dynamic guest experience.”

What’s Staying, What’s Coming

For decades, The SuperBook’s SuperContest was the biggest NFL picks contest in Las Vegas. Which, in the pre-PASPA-overturn era, meant it was the biggest NFL picks contest in the nation.

The SuperContest began in 1988, and it will continue with this partnership. Tuesday’s news release specifically stated that the SuperContest franchise will remain an integral part of The SuperBook experience.

The SuperBook’s huge footprint on the Westgate Las Vegas casino floor apparently will also remain. The SuperBook long heralded itself as the largest sportsbook in the world. Circa Sports’ massive book downtown on Fremont Street might now hold that title, depending on who you ask and how you define largest.

Still, The SuperBook is certainly in the same stratosphere and offers an incredible sportsbook experience, particularly for major events such as the Super Bowl and March Madness.

Caesars said it aims to preserve “the identity, scale and atmosphere that have defined The SuperBook for decades.”

As for what’s to come, Caesars Sportsbook will bring expanded wagering options at the counter and on the Caesars Sportsbook app. There will also be self-service betting kiosks inside The SuperBook and throughout the Westgate resort.
