Guardians vs. White Sox MLB DFS Picks
- José Ramírez Higher than 1.5 total bases
Cleveland is down 0-2 and has scored three runs in two games, so it needs its best hitter to carry the offense. Ramírez has a small but strong history against Chicago starter Sean Newcomb, going 3-for-4 with a 1.750 OPS in their career meetings. Newcomb is a lefty with a 3.09 ERA, and Ramírez is a switch hitter who gets to bat right-handed against him.
At 1.5 total bases, Ramírez can clear the number with one extra-base hit or a multi-hit game in Guardians vs. White Sox. That is the side to target with Cleveland facing elimination.
The White Sox counter with Munetaka Murakami, who hit 35 home runs this season, against Guardians starter Daniel Espino. Espino has a huge strikeout rate but has given up home runs in a hitter-friendly park. If you want a second play from this game, Murakami is the one.
Dodgers vs. Braves MLB DFS Picks
- Tyler Glasnow Higher than 6.5 strikeouts
This is the best play on the board. Glasnow is averaging 11.92 strikeouts per nine innings this season, and he had at least seven strikeouts in all but one of his August starts, including 21 across his last two.
Atlanta's lineup has struggled against him, too. Matt Olson is 2-for-13 in his career against Glasnow. At 6.5 strikeouts, Glasnow needs seven to clear the projection in Dodgers vs. Braves, a number his swing-and-miss profile gives him a strong chance to reach.
- Freddie Freeman Higher than 1.5 total bases
Freeman gets to face his old team, and his history against Braves starter Tyler Mahle is strong: 9-for-22 (.421) with a 1.132 OPS and a home run. Mahle went 7-10 with a 3.99 ERA this season.
An estimated 1.5 total bases gives Freeman multiple paths to the Higher. One double gets there immediately, while two singles also clear the projection.
Be careful with other Dodgers here, though. Shohei Ohtani is 1-for-12 against Mahle in his career, and Tommy Edman is 3-for-26.
Rays vs. Yankees MLB DFS Picks
- Max Fried Higher than 5.5 strikeouts
The Yankees are facing elimination, so Fried should get a long leash at Yankee Stadium. He has a 2.80 ERA this season, struck out 24% of the hitters he faced and gave up one run in six innings in his Wild Card start.
Tampa Bay doesn't hit lefties for much power either, with just 36 home runs against left-handers all season, tied for the fewest in the league. If Underdog hangs Fried around an estimated 5.5 strikeouts, six Ks is a reasonable target in Rays vs. Yankees with his workload likely to remain intact in an elimination game.
- Ben Rice Higher than 1.5 total bases
The Yankees' offense has been almost nonexistent in this series. Outside of Rice and Austin Wells, the lineup is 1-for-46.
Rice has two hits in the series and a good history against Rays starter Nick Martinez, hitting .444 with a 1.323 OPS in 11 plate appearances. Yankee Stadium's short right-field porch also favors a left-handed hitter like Rice.
At an estimated 1.5 total bases, one extra-base hit is enough to cash the Higher.
The risk is Martinez himself. He went 15-6 with a 3.10 ERA, has a 2.38 ERA on the road and a 2.25 ERA in two starts in the Bronx. He gets a lot of soft contact. Rice is the one Yankee we'd trust against him.
Brewers vs. Padres MLB DFS Picks
- Christian Yelich Lower than 0.5 hits
All three games in this Brewers vs. Padres series have finished with seven or fewer combined runs, and both bullpens have been excellent in October. Milwaukee's bullpen ERA sits at 0.64, and San Diego's is at 1.69.
Yelich is also in a slump, hitting .235 with a .577 OPS over the last 28 days. An estimated 0.5-hit projection makes this an aggressive Lower because it requires Yelich to go hitless, but the combination of his recent form, a low-scoring series and San Diego's pitching makes that the preferred side.
