Panthers vs. Rams Betting Preview

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers have a young roster that deserves a ton of credit for turning a 5-12 record in 2024 into an NFC South Division title. But Carolina had a must-win game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the divisional title on the line, and could only muster up 14 points in a loss.

The Panthers still back-doored their way into the playoffs as a result of the Falcons winning four straight games at the end of the season to give Carolina an advantage in a three-team tiebreaker, but Carolina is lacking momentum heading into this game.

In fact, the last time Carolina's offense looked potent was during their 31-28 victory over Los Angeles in Week 13. But that was November football; this is January, postseason football. There's a different level of pressure involved in playing games down the stretch of the season, and the Panthers didn't handle that pressure very well.

After reaching 7-6 with the win against the Rams, the Panthers had a bye week, then proceeded to lose three of their last four games of the season, with only one offensive output of more than 17 points (in their only win in that stretch).

Carolina's offense only averages 18.3 points per game, which is — by far — the worst production from any team in the playoffs, and only ranks ahead of the Saints, Jets, Titans, Browns, and Raiders, who all have top-eight picks in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams are entering this Wild Card Round game with a lot to prove, but not much momentum to back them up. After a Week 15 win against the Lions, the Rams clinched a playoff berth and were in the driver's seat for the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

But things went off track very soon after that win. In a battle to control their own destiny for the No. 1 seed, Los Angeles led the Seattle Seahawks 30-14 with 8:22 left in the game, but subsequently allowed two touchdowns, accompanied by two-point conversions, on a punt-return touchdown and a 26-yard pass play.

The Rams missed what could have been a game-winning field goal two drives later. After Los Angeles' final drive of regulation stalled near midfield, the Seahawks eventually prevailed 38-37 in overtime.

With a chance to keep themselves in the race for the No. 1 seed just a week later, the Rams lost 27-24 to the Atlanta Falcons. Los Angeles did rebound in the final week of the season, beating the Arizona Cardinals 37-20 at home to claim the No. 5 seed, setting up this opportunity.

The last time the Rams traveled to Carolina, they made mistake after mistake, turning the ball over three times en route to a 31-28 loss. But the weather conditions in this game are expected to be even worse, which will put the game in the hands of a Rams defense that ranks 10th in the NFL in points allowed (20.4 per game).

Panthers vs. Rams Pick

Carolina's offensive struggles are well-documented. The Rams' defense will be out for blood after a lackluster performance in the first matchup between these teams.

The spread has the Rams at -10.5, but if this game is going to be a blowout, it will likely be a result of the Rams dominating time of possession, limiting turnovers, and running the ball effectively in the rain and wind.

This won't be an air-it-out onslaught by the Rams, and as a result, the best prediction is to bank on this being a low-scoring grind in some rough weather.

My Pick: Under 46.5 Total Points
