Lions vs Packers NFL Week 1 Preview
I'm going with the Packers -2 at home against the Lions in Week 1. If you want to dive into trends, you can make a case for both teams.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell is 11-3 against the spread (ATS) in September. Jared Goff is 8-0 ATS in Week 1 over the course of his career.
However, on the other side of that same coin, Packers head coach Matt Lafleur is 15-3 ATS in the first three games of the season, including 7-0 ATS at home in those spots. He's been the most profitable coach in the NFL in the first three games of the season since 2019.
This should be an excellent game, but I have to put my money where my mouth is.
I'm selling some of my Lions stock and buying the Packers laying less than a field goal at home right out of the gate in Week 1.
There are other reasons I'm willing to go there.
First off, I have the Packers power-rated ahead of the Lions entering the season, and there are no question marks surrounding their coordinator situation, unlike Detroit following the departure of Ben Johnson. There are no questions about the interior of Green Bay's offensive line.
The Lions, on the other hand, basically have three guys in new positions up front on offense. And we talked about this all offseason: Goff tends to struggle against interior pressure.
Oh yeah, and by the way, the Packers added Micah Parsons, which is the main area of the roster they needed to address. We'll see if he's ready to go in Week 1. He seems to be dealing with a minor back issue, but that could spell trouble for the Lions' offensive line.
There's no telling how the secondary is going to come together for this Green Bay defense. I'm a little bit concerned about the Packers' slot corner situation and the Lions' ability to attack them in that area.
But with the Lions bringing in a new offensive coordinator and the potential for Green Bay's defensive front to generate pressure, I think this is a prime bounce-back spot for the Packers.
Lions vs Packers Prediction, Betting Analysis
The Lions went 2-0 against Green Bay last season.
However, Jordan Love was banged up in one of those games, and the Lions went 6-for-7 on fourth-down attempts and scored touchdowns on six of those conversions across those two contests, and both games were still pretty close (34-31, 24-14).
I'm all-in on the Packers this season, and this is a Lions team that may take a step back given the turnover at offensive coordinator.
I think this game belongs to Green Bay. Give me the Packers -2. Go Pack Go!
Pick: Packers -2 (-110)
Spread
My Packers vs. Lions betting prediction is on the Packers to cover the spread at -2.
Moneyline
I'm betting on Green Bay ATS instead of targeting the moneyline market.
Over/Under
I will also be staying away from the total in this matchup.
