Raiders vs Chiefs NFL Week 7 Preview

There’s a lot of ways to get here, but it starts with what both teams want to do on the offensive side of the ball.

The Chiefs are going to possess the ball for a large portion of this game, and they are finally getting Rashee Rice back for this contest.

I’m a believer in this Chiefs' offense. They are going to be a problem for opposing teams for the rest of the year.

The Raiders, in the meantime, are going to play a ton of zone coverage on defense to try to prevent explosive plays.

Maxx Crosby is certainly capable of making some big plays for the Raiders' defense. He’s going to have a favorable matchup on the outside.

However, the bigger thing for the under is this spot, is the fact that this Raiders' offense is totally broken.

I don’t think Brock Bowers is going to play in this game. They’ve got a bye coming up, and they need to get him healthy.

Without Kolton Miller, the Raiders' offensive line is a mess. They beat the Titans by 10 points last week, but they still only averaged around four yards per play in that game. It was disgusting.

So, the most likely scenario here is that the Chiefs jump out to a decent-sized lead, and then do what they always do at home: they sit on the ball, sustaining long grinding drives in the second half to kill the clock.

We could also have some wind here, which might limit some of the explosive passing plays. That would actually impact the Chiefs more.

Patrick Mahomes has been back to vintage form this season — average air yards, passer rating, everything looks like peak Mahomes again. And now they’re finally going to have all their weapons back.

So, this total has continued to creep upward. However, I would limit expectations this week given the weather forecast.

This game could really slow down and die in the second half. And this Raiders' offense simply can’t do anything, especially without Bowers.

Bowers is their chess piece every week; the mismatch problem, the best pass-catching tight end in the NFL.

Now, the Raiders are missing him and one of the best left tackles in the league. So, the offensive is almost destined to be a disaster.

Raiders vs Chiefs Prediction, Betting Analysis

I like where the Chiefs offense is headed, but I still think this is a good spot to bet the under.

The return of Rashee Rice is going to have a big impact on the Chiefs, and while ultimately his return is a huge boost for their receiving corps, I think it might actually slow down the pace of their games.

Rice is more of a short-area target, someone who’s going to command a ton of looks underneath. That helps the the Chiefs in general, but it also means more plays, more clock and maybe a couple of drops as he shakes off the rust.

On the flip side, Bowers is likely out again for the Raiders. But even when he was healthy, watching the Raiders operate week-to-week has been a head-scratching experience.

Defensively, the Raiders’ game plan is basically don’t give up explosive plays, and hope Maxx Crosby makes something happen against the opposing offensive line. He will have some pretty favorable matchups this week, and that should bode well for the under.

Pick: Under 45.5 (-110)
