Dolphins vs Steelers Monday Night Football Preview

The Steelers welcome the Dolphins into a harsh environment, with temperatures in the teens expected.

If you're into trends, Dolphins' quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has historically struggled mightily in the cold.

Entering this matchup, Tagovailoa is 0-5 when the temperature is below 40 degrees, 1-6 when it’s 45 or colder, 2-8 at 50 or below, and 4-13 under 55 degrees.

While he did notch a win against the Jets in 41-degree weather last week, this matchup in Pittsburgh represents a significant step up.

On the field, the Steelers should have a considerable edge when they have the ball.

The Dolphins rank 28th in yards per rush allowed and sit last in opponent completion percentage.

In this environment, the team that controls the trenches and the short passing game is likely to prevail.

That said, the Dolphins’ ground game can’t be dismissed. Led by De’Von Achane, Miami ranks third in the league in yards per rush.

Pittsburgh is vulnerable against the run, ranking 18th in yards per rush allowed and 28th in EPA per rush.

Even so, we should see the Steelers make a concerted effort to load the box and contain the run, especially given the harsh passing conditions.

Dolphins vs Steelers Prediction, Betting Analysis

This game has all the elements in which Pittsburgh thrives and Miami freezes up.

The market has come in support of Pittsburgh in this spot, as we’ve seen this spread rise throughout the week.

We should see them succeed early, being better equipped to handle the weather.

Having more avenues for offensive success will allow them to create separation in a game of methodical drives.

Back the Steelers to cover the first half spread.

Pick: Steelers First Half Spread -2.5 (-110)
