Another day, another dollar. Or, in this case, another week of NFL action, another big payout from the Fanatics Sportsbook Fair Play policy. Week 5 saw another rash of injuries, meaning more than $1 million was handed out in playouts.
First-Half Injury Protection & Second-Half Tokens
The most notable injury of the week came from the NFL game in London this past week, where the Jacksonville Jaguars took on the Philadelphia Eagles. Eagles backup running back Will Shipley saw lots of action pregame heading into the matchup, with starter Saquon Barkley already sidelined.
Unfortunately for Shipley, he couldn't make it out of the first half, suffering a partial tear of his plantar fascia, triggering Fanatics' automatic first-half protection. Shipley getting pulled from the game meant over $360,000 in payouts to bettors.
His exit was one of seven first-half injury triggers resulting in more than $1 million in payouts.
Other first-half injuries of note in Week 5 included Houston Texans' running back David Montgomery and New England Patriots' RB TreVeyon Henderson.
Fanatics' 2nd Half Injury Tokens were activated five times, with Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. and San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel being the big names.
Forward Progress Safeguards
Beyond injury protection, the Fair Play policy safeguards wagers against late-game statistical losses through Forward Progress protection. This feature protects "Over" prop bets from being erased by quarterback kneel-downs or late negative-yardage carries.
In Week 5, the Forward Progress protection was triggered 11 times, but for a modest $7,000.
As long as the NFL season continues, the Fanatics Fair Play policy remains one of the most valuable safety-net resources available to football bettors.
