Vikings vs Lions Preview, Week 9 Prediction
On Monday, the Vikings had a walkthrough in which LT Christian Darrisaw, RT Brian O'Neill, LB Andrew Van Ginkel, and QB J.J. McCarthy all participated.
This means the Vikings should be in a lot better shape than their last game on Thursday Night Football, where they got blown out playing on three days of rest with an injury-riddled roster.
The Vikings are underperforming defensively. They entered their last game ranked 12th, but I think getting Van Ginkel back will be a big factor for them against the Lions.
A defense under defensive coordinator Brian Flores should not be this bad for an extended period of time. This might be the floor for Minnesota.
The Vikings had to go with Carson Wentz at quarterback the last few weeks, but now, McCarthy is coming back and Minnesota's overall game plan should return to normal.
With better health and extra time to prepare, the Vikings should be in a much better spot for this divisional game.
Sure, the Lions are really good, but I’m a little bit down on them compared to the market.
I don't think they are some type of invincible juggernaut, especially not in a divisional game.
While many people are down on McCarthy at this point and time, there is plenty of upside for the Vikings here with all the other players coming back.
Since 2021, the Vikings are 7-2 straight up (SU) and 6-3 against the spread (ATS) after allowing 28+ points in back-to-back games.
However, let the record show, they are 0-2 SU/ATS against the Lions in that spot, and 7-0 SU and 6-1 ATS against all other teams.
Vikings vs Lions Prediction, Spread Best Bet
This price tag on Detroit is simply too high.
The Vikings could lose this game comfortably, never really threaten to win and still cover the spread.
We've seen this time and time again this year with big underdogs covering the spread.
Quite frankly, that's really the only spot underdogs have been covering, aside from underdogs coming off big losses.
Team coming off a loss of 20+ points have covered the spread at a 56% clip since 2018.
Also worth noting is that he Vikings are on a road trip and the Lions are on a home stand.
Teams on a road trip are 4-2 ATS so far this season. And surprisingly enough, that trend actually has some historical data to support it.
In the last 20 years, in divisional games where a team on a road trip is facing a team on a home stand, the team on the road is 88-65-5 ATS (58%).
Vikings vs Lions Best Bet: Vikings +9.5 (-110); bet to +9
