Texans vs. Patriots
Rhamondre Stevenson remained heavily involved in the passing game, catching three balls for 75 yards. He's topped 20 receiving yards in six straight games.
Since New England's Week 14 bye, Stevenson is 3rd on the team in targets, receptions, and receiving yards.
I mentioned the pressure rate factor in the Kayshon Boutte writeup.
Stevenson's production in the receiving game tends to increase when his QB is under pressure, as he sees a nice boost when defenders get to Drake Maye. His target rate goes from 7.7% to 12.4% when Maye is pressured.
More dump-offs to the running backs make sense when a quarterback is forced out of the pocket.
Pick: Rhamondre Stevenson Over 18.5 Receiving Yards (-120)
Texans vs. Patriots
Nico Collins is the alpha in this passing game, but he has been ruled out after suffering a concussion in the Wild Card Round.
Christian Kirk popped up for a random huge game last week, but it was Xavier Hutchinson who dominated targets in Nico’s absence in Week 18.
Kirk earned nine targets (four more than any other teammate) on 32 team pass attempts and finished with 84 yards on five receptions, but Hutchinson still had four targets on 67% of snaps last week with Collins playing a large portion of the game.
Pick: Xavier Hutchinson Over 27.5 Receiving Yards (-110)
Texans vs. Patriots
By Charlie Wright
The Texans are a tough matchup for outside receivers. They have two talented corners, and they get pressure on the quarterback.
The Texans ranked 7th in pressure rate this season. Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter gave Aaron Rodgers fits in the Wild Card Round.
Kayshon Boutte had a 12.8% target share when Drake Maye wasn't pressured this season. That number was basically cut in half when Maye was pressured, falling to 6.5%.
The Texans won't get pressure on every play, of course, but it's a difficult spot for a player who already struggles to earn targets.
I'm expecting to see more volume go to Hunter Henry, Stefon Diggs, and the running backs in this game.
Pick: Kayshon Boutte Under 2.5 Receptions (-135)
Rams vs. Bears
By Nick Galaida
From Weeks 12-18, the Rams’ pass defense ranked 13th in EPA/play and 22nd in DVOA. Notably, they ranked 27th in explosive play% allowed during that span – consistently allowing big plays through the air with safety Quentin Lake sidelined due to injury.
The good news for the Rams is that Lake returned for the team’s Wild Card matchup against the Panthers. The bad news for the Rams is that their defense still had problems containing explosive plays, allowing three completions of 20+ yards.
Caleb Williams doesn’t offer much stability on a down-to-down basis, but he extends plays and usually finds a way to connect for at least one or two deep balls. He hasn’t gone under 212 passing yards in a home game since mid-October.
The weather forecast seems a little bit overblown for this game as of this writing.
The Bears are going to need to find success through the air if they hope to advance to the NFC Championship Game. Expect head coach Ben Johnson to have his passing attack ready to roll in this one.
Pick: Caleb Williams Over 217.5 Passing Yards (-114)
Rams vs. Bears
Luther Burden had a "down" game last week with "only" 42 receiving yards, and the books continue to disrespect him.
With seven targets, he continued to play the 2nd-most-prominent role in the passing game behind Colston Loveland, and Burden remains one of the most efficient WRs in football as he ascends to end his rookie season.
The Rams defense was just shredded through the air by Bryce Young and the Panthers' passing game.
