Week 2 in the NFL is often called Overreaction Week — and for good reason. After just one game, public perception tends to swing wildly, creating opportunities for sharper players to take advantage.

At PoolGenius, our focus is on uncovering value that helps you beat the field. Whether it’s fading an overhyped team or finding a less obvious pick with strong win odds, the ability to go against the grain is key in NFL survivor pools and football pick’em contests.

In this article, we’ll cover three key strategies to keep in mind for your NFL Week 2 entries. Whether you’re making an NFL survivor pick, ranking teams in a confidence pool, or looking for that one upset pick to separate from the pack, these moves can tilt the odds in your favor.

NFL Survivor Picks Week 2: Pick or Save Baltimore?

Week 2 is shaping up to be one of the most interesting weeks of the NFL Survivor season.

Why? Because the top two teams in future value (Bills and Ravens) are among the top two favorites.

The spotlight is really on Baltimore. The Ravens are the biggest favorites this week (-11.5 vs. Cleveland) and already the most popular survivor choice, with 32% of players locking them in early.

On paper, it’s hard to argue. They have by far the best market odds to advance at 87%, while no other team tops 72%.

But here’s the catch: we calculate Baltimore as having the second most future value in survivor pools, and well ahead of No. 3 Philadelphia. We project them with 70%+ win odds in eight more games this season, including favorable spots like Week 12 vs. the Jets and Week 16 vs. the Patriots.

Meanwhile, Week 2 offers several other decent options, as five teams are favored by 5.5 to 6.5 points, all with solid win odds but far less popularity.

So the decision comes down to this:

  • Take Baltimore now for maximum safety.
  • Save Baltimore for stronger leverage later.

Our recommendation: Save Baltimore.

Week 2 won’t win you a survivor pool, but it’s an easy place to burn one of your best assets too soon. Hold them for later, when the slates get thinner and Baltimore stands out as a safer option among riskier alternatives than we see this week.

If Not Baltimore, Then Who?

That depends entirely on your pool’s size, format, and pick popularity rates. What works in a smaller league may not be optimal in a large contest with thousands of entries.

The good news: you don’t have to crunch the numbers yourself. Head over to PoolGenius, start your free Week 2 trial, and plug in your pool’s size and rules.

In about 30 seconds, you’ll see the first, second, and third best options for your exact pool, balancing both safety and long-term value.

NFL Pick’em & Confidence Pool Picks Week 2: Texans Offer Value as a Favorite

In most pools, the public leans heavily on recency bias, putting too much weight on last week’s results while overlooking betting markets or team context. That’s exactly what we’re seeing in one of the Week 2 matchups.

Houston is a -2.5 home favorite against Tampa Bay, yet only 42% of the public is picking the Texans despite our model giving them a 56% chance to win.

The perception gap comes from Week 1 results: Tampa Bay edged Atlanta in a road thriller, while Houston let a winnable game slip away late at the Rams.

But context matters. The Texans' defense looked sharp, and now they return home for their opener. Backing Houston here lets you side with the favorite while still getting leverage against the field.

We’ve flagged five other Week 2 games where public perception is far too low relative to actual win odds. You can see all of them in our Football Pick’em Picks product.

Weekly Pool Prize Strategy for Week 2: Jaguars Profile as Upset Value

Let’s take a look at another team that could be worth taking as an outright upset that the public isn’t putting much faith in for Week 2: the Jaguars playing at the Bengals.

The Jaguars are 3-point underdogs, but only 21% of the public is picking them to win. That’s despite Jacksonville looking sharp against Carolina in Week 1 under new head coach Liam Coen.

Meanwhile, Cincinnati stumbled badly, managing just 141 total yards, the second-worst mark in the league, and nearly losing to Cleveland.

With the Bengals’ defense still a concern and their offense not clicking, Jacksonville is a classic underdog leverage spot for all pools. The Jags especially make sense while trying to differentiate (without taking excessive risk) in weekly game winner pools.

Make Smarter Football Pool Picks

Winning your NFL survivor or pick’em pool isn’t just about picking the obvious favorites; it’s about consistently putting the odds on your side.

The challenge? There’s an overwhelming amount of data and math to process, and most players don’t have the time to dig through it all.

That’s where PoolGenius steps in. We crunch the numbers, track public pick trends, and run the analysis so you can approach your 2025 football pools with a sharper strategy.
