Just as everyone expected, Borussia Monchengladbach is atop one of the Champions League’s groups of death entering Matchday 5.

The Germans welcome Inter Milan on Tuesday in an important match for their hopes of winning the group, while the Italians will be realistically hoping for a berth in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Let’s find the betting value for Tuesday’s match.

Borussia Monchengladbach

After beginning group play with a pair of draws against Inter and Real Madrid that saw them allow stoppage-time equalizers, Monchengladbach have taken the top spot in Group B thanks to a pair of blowout wins over Shakhtar Donetsk. The German side showed off its ruthless finishing, outscoring the Ukrainian champions, 10-0, across the two games.

Manager Marco Rose’s side has scored 18 goals over its last five games, including four over the weekend in a 4-1 win over Schalke. The depth in Gladbach’s attack is especially impressive. They have had seven goalscorers combine for their eight goals over their past two games, with left back Oscar Wendt the only player to score in each.

Monchengladbach has been uneven defensively throughout the season, having allowed two goals to both Inter and Madrid, as well as five over their past three Bundesliga fixtures. A 4-3 loss on Nov. 8 against Bayer Leverkusen was a worst-case scenario for Gladbach, with its center-back pairing of Nico Elvedi and Matthias Ginter being consistently caught out.

Inter Milan

Inter’s Champions League hopes are hanging by a thread, and they will need to secure results in their final two group games to ensure progress to the Europa League as third-place finishers in the group. Manager Antonio Conte’s side was knocked out in the group stages last season as well, so this will be a big disappointment, especially since they trail neighbors AC Milan by five points in Serie A.

Conte’s team secured two points with draws against Gladbach and Shakhtar to begin Group B play, but back-to-back losses to Real Madrid put them at the bottom of the table.

Conte’s team has sufficiently created chances this season. It’s just a matter of finishing them. Also, the defense has been iffy, conceding 13 goals through nine Serie A games and seven in four European outings.

Inter secured an important win over Sassuolo over the weekend, a game that saw them rest striker Romelu Lukaku and fullback Achraf Hakimi.

Betting Analysis

Inter’s path to the knockout stages is not impossible, but it’s highly unlikely. What is encouraging entering this game is how seriously they treated the Europa League last season, a competition where they reached the final in impressive fashion against a host of quality European sides.

While the Champions League knockout stages may not be in Inter’s future, their past leads me to believe they value playing in the Europa League. I’m not worried about them resting players for this game or not taking the remaining fixtures as seriously as they would a quarterfinals game.

With that, I’m taking the experienced Inter team to do the job and secure all three points in Germany at +120. They’ll surely be motivated, and I trust an experienced manager like Conte to have his team ready to roll for a big game.

Also, over 3.5 goals is +140 and presents a lot of value at that number. Both teams create chances and are shaky at the back.

A parlay puts the two at +390, but I’ll keep them separate for this game.

Picks: Inter +120; Over 3.5 goals +140
