It has been close to four months since we saw FA Cup action, but that ends Saturday when Manchester United faces host Norwich City in the quarterfinal round.

Norwich City reached this round of the tournament with a stunning shootout victory at Tottenham Hotspur. It was a rare moment to remember for the Canaries and their fan base in what has been a campaign to forget.

The club is sitting at the bottom of the Premier League at 21 points, putting it six points behind West Ham United, AFC Bournemouth and Aston Villa on the table.

Scoring goals has been the biggest issue for the Canaries this season, especially as of late. Norwich City, currently 18th out of 20 Premier League clubs in expected goals (33.36), has scored once in its last seven league contests, which simply won’t get it done at any level.

In contrast, Manchester United enters the match playing perhaps its best soccer of the entire season. The Red Devils, who reached this point of the tournament with a win against Derby County, are unbeaten in their last 13 matches.

Manchester United produced a 3-0 win against Sheffield United earlier in the week to keep its hopes alive for one of the league’s Champions League berths. And unlike its opponents, the Red Devils have not had issues finding the back of the net throughout the season and sit fourth in the league with 53.66 expected goals.

Bottom line, this match comes down to class and form, with Manchester United holding distinct advantages in both categories. I might have given Norwich City a fighting chance if their fans were allowed inside Carrow Road Stadium, but that’s not the case and negates most of their home-field edge.

Add in the fact Manchester United picked up 4-0 and 3-1 wins against Norwich City already this season in league play and you have the makings for another long outing for the host side.

I am backing Manchester United to get the job done and earn a spot in the FA Cup semifinal round. Sprinkle a little on the total going over the number as well, knowing Norwich City won’t go down without a fight.

The Bets

  • Manchester United -1 (-145)
  • Over 2.5 Goals (-130)
