LAFC vs. Chelsea Pick, Betting Analysis

On paper, this looks like a mismatch. Chelsea is the heavy favorite and should dominate from start to finish.

The Blues came out on top in their fair share of mismatches on their way to winning the Europa Conference League. They scored an average of three goals per game in that tournament, 2.2 more than their opponents. Chelsea will likely net a few goals when they take on LAFC. Enzo Maresca’s side were able to overpower Real Betis in the second half of their last competitive match, netting four goals in the process. It’s difficult to see how the MLS outfit will be able to contend with the Blues’ expensively assembled squad.

Chelsea averaged a whopping 65% possession in the Conference League. They saw the lion’s share of the ball in all of their matches in that competition. This clash with LAFC should play out in a similar fashion. Maresca’s men will be in the ascendancy from the off. Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez do the work in midfield so Cole Palmer can thrive. Palmer assisted two goals against Betis and holds the key to unlocking Steve Cherundolo’s deep defense here.

Los Angeles FC’s best chance of winning is on the counter. They have pace in wide areas, but the passing will need to be incisive and accurate if they are to play through Chelsea’s high press. Nathan Ordaz and Denis Bouanga pose a threat, but they will have limited opportunities to make their mark.
