Sevilla welcomes Celta Vigo to Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium on Friday night to kick off this weekend's La Liga action.
The hosts enter the match in 13th in the league table with 31 points and have a crucial Europa League quarterfinal at Manchester United next week.
Meanwhile, the visitors come in with great form, having lost just one of their past nine and moving up to 10th in the process.
This should be a great battle and I believe we should get a few goals to make this an entertaining encounter.
Sevilla
Sevilla is under its third manager this season after the appointment of José Luis Mendilibar, a sign of how far the club has fallen after the recent successful seasons.
Life under Mendilibar got off to a great start with a 2-0 victory over Cádiz to give the club a four-point gap to the relegation zone.
Even with the struggles domestically, Sevilla has made a deep run in Europe, knocking out PSV Eindhoven and Fenerbahçe to set up the pairing with the Red Devils.
However, it's possible the attention paid to the cup competition has caused the drop in league form.
Celta Vigo
Celta also made a change at manager during the season, bringing in Carlos Carvalhal in November.
Before he arrived, the club only had 11 of a possible 36 points to go along with a -4.0 xGDiff, according to fbref.com.
Carvalhal has turned the season around since the World Cup break, with only Barcelona and Atlético Madrid picking up more points over the past 10 matches.
That run includes the current six-match unbeaten run, where the team has averaged 1.717 expected goals and 2.83 big chances per game.
Unfortunately, key midfielder Gabriel Veiga, who has nine league goals and four assists, is suspended for this fixture.
Sevilla vs Celta Vigo Pick
This is a tricky game on paper because Sevilla has a big European match upcoming and Celta is missing a prominent player. However, I still think we'll see goals here.
My best bet is for the total to fly over 2.25 goals (-108). You could also play the total over 2.5 goals for a plus price, but I want the protection in case this ends with a pair of goals.
Celta’s road matches have been high-event fixtures since the World Cup break and are averaging 2.8 xG per 90 minutes. This is the same side that has produced 1.42 expected goals per game on its own during this stretch away from home.
Meanwhile, Sevilla’s attack has been flying at home, racking up 2.15 xG per home game over the past six league home fixtures. The team is due even more home goals, scoring 16 from 20.4 expected on the season.
Once you add in that Celta is due some positive regression, I think we have a great shot to kick off the La Liga weekend with plenty of scoring.
