BJ Cunningham: Scotland ML (+210) vs. Croatia

Croatia doesn't look like the nation that made it to the 2018 World Cup final. In contrast, the Croatians look old, slow and, frankly, don’t have a striker that is capable of penetrating any back line.

Ante Rebić and Andrej Kramarić have looked terrible. In fact, Rebić only has one goal in his last 22 appearances for Croatia. The country's midfield, which everyone has fallen in love with, has been forced to play more defensive and hasn't been able to create things going forward. Only 20% of its touches against the Czech Republic came in the final third of the pitch.

So, I have a hard time backing Croatia, especially against a Scotland side that looked much improved against England.

Unfortunately, Billy Gilmour, who provided a ton of life to Scotland and got much better as the game went on against England, tested positive for COVID-19, so he will be missing this match. However, Scotland looked better with the addition of Kieran Tierney and the move of Scott McTominay to the back.

The Scots were much stronger defensively and got a lot better as the game went on. Their solid defense in the final 60 minutes of the match kept England, which only created 0.36 xG, at bay.

Offensively, Scotland looked more dangerous with Che Adams in the lineup. Adams is clearly the best striker it has in their roster.

We also have to remember a draw will not be good enough for either side, so both have to go for a win to most likely finish in third place. This match will also be played in Glasgow, so, I really like Scotland at anything +200 odds or better.

Matthew Trebby: Czech Republic vs. England — First Half No Goals (+160)

In Czech Republic’s opening win over Scotland, it got two stellar goals from Patrik Schick. The Czechs, who registered 0.90 xG, then mostly sat back and defended their lead. In its second contest, Czech Republic dominated the first half against Croatia, creating most of its overall 2.0 xG in the first 45 minutes.

However, Czech Republic won’t be as aggressive out of the gates against England. The focus will be on maintaining defensive stability against an opponent struggling to create much of anything going forward.

The one goal scored against Czech Republic was not really through open play. The Czechs were caught out on a quickly taken free kick by Croatia.

Assuming that Czech Republic strategy and banking on England manager Gareth Southgate being too stubborn to make change that would benefit his team, I think there’s great value in betting on a goal-less first half.

While England does have the quality to break through and score early to put pressure on the Czechs, we haven’t seen it yet. The best number can be found at FanDuel, where you can bet no goals in the first half at +160 odds.
